When i start up my M17x when it is not plugged in and is running on its battery it beeps twice and says that it is running on its battery and says press F1 to continue or F2 for setup. Its just annoying because of the beeping does anyone know if i can make it not do that on startup?

Understand where you are coming from although there is no way I have been able to find to do this.

You could always find the speaker on the motherboard and just ruin it. It's not really used for anything other than error codes - and isn't even helpful there - but it would void your warrenty.

    ROFL!! That was too funny!

But outside of that measure, I don't know of any other way, and I wish I did. When it makes that uberloud beep, its kinda embarrassing....

Hey ryuzaki and anybody else having problems with the alienware M17x Running on battery power.... Press F1 to continue message... I have the same issue with mine and after two hours with dell support the problem was fixed. Go to the dell site and download the latest Bios for the M17x. It should be A02. I know that you probably have that already and so did I. The tech did a bios update (A02) Via remote. The first Bios update didn't fix the problem. After the second bios update the message went away and my system is running fine. Also make sure that you configure the bios for what you currently have. The tech guy was ready to replace my computer because I got a black screen after the Bios update, but I reminded him that after a bios update we have to go back in and enable the Raid setup. Don't forget the second Raid setting, the nVidia settings. Enable that one and then enable the hard drives. You should have two if you have a raid setup like I do. After that you should be ok. Also make sure to download and install the OSD application and install it. My computer was shipped without that little application Install it and restart the computer. You should be able to enable and disable the battery while pressing FN+F2 keys.. If you don't see a small battery on your screen when you press the FN+F2 keys then you need that program updated. I hope this help... I don't know if it was just the Bios or a combination both the bios and the OSD application but my system is ok now and no more annoying press F1 message.

    Hi ryuzaki,
As others have stated, the "beeping" is normal if you boot the computer on battery. It was designed to be an indicator that warns you if you forget to plug it in. Being that the laptop was primarily designed as a gaming machine, it is assumed that most gamers will have it plugged in to make use of their 260/280/4870s.

    Thanks,
    Gabe
