    Hi there

My M17xr2 finally arrived today just 4 1/2 months from when my laptop broke!

however the bluray drive is very noisy and playback stutters every 30 seconds or so.

you can hear it almost like an old faulty hd drive clicking back and forward.

had same drive in old m17x and it never made any sound like this and played fault less.

drive is read and write matsui 35?

definitely doesn't sound right, I had the BLU-ray burner in my R1 and it made 0 noise other than the spin-up

    Hi weddingvideos4u,

Does the M17Xr2 include the Dell DataSafe Local Backup software? This software is pre-installed on the M15x (at least mine), and is used to create backups (if you pay for it). This program polls the comptuer approx every 60 secs, and caused Blu-Ray skipping on my M15x. Uninstalling the program solved this issue for me. There is no way to re-install this application once it has been removed, as Dell does not have it up for download. So, if you are using it, or plan on using it don't remove it. Good luck!

They also have provided a Datasafe Local patch for this very issue that takes care of it without having to un-install Datasafe :)

The link to the DataSafe Local update/patch is here:

    http://support.us.dell.com/support/...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=382173

You will need to confirm the patch also applies to the DataSafe Local version installed on the R2. I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible but you will know when running it.
