Hey guys M17x was supposed to be released at the maximum of march(Q1).
what do you think the problem is, are they waiting till May for montevina or will they release it in April bcuz i wanted to know will they be able to upgrade it to montevina platform later on and if so will it get 9 or 8 series sli. Also will it be able to upgrade from core extreme to quad core after purchase.
Shouldn't we ask about the release info from AW themselves as they could not release it in the promised time line.

montevina has a really slow quadcore coming out in 2008... it may suport actually fast quadcores in 2009 but no one knows.... i think its a 2.2gig quad if i'm not mistaken.

I see no reason for the m17x to have montevina ...following alienwares history of being a chipset behind or so... and the fact that the m15x and m17x have integrated switching already ( a feature of montevina) i think the only reason the m17x is being delayed is that they may have discovered that duel 8800m GTX are not possible with current cooling and are waiting for the shrunken and cooler 9800m GTX for there m17x's sli set up..

    thats my hunch..?

eather that of the m17x comes out very very very soon with 8800m GTX sli... and downclocks like mad &_&

Montevina is great because it's faster and it will give better battery life. Stop asking these kind of questions. It's not like you're not losing anything.

well nether will the m17x if it waits for montevina...?

this is all massive unknowns regardless

if the 9800m gtx is just a shrunken 8800m gtx core however.. it may come sooner than normal high end updates. You cant deny the 8800m GTX having cooling and heat issues in both the mainstream systems its in ignoring its big hefty sli laptops.

What's wrong in what he said ? People just come along and ask pointless questions... as if, technology won't get better... and as though their laptops would never be outdated. Better what F2B posted, than nothing at all.

What's the big point about it anyway ? The (delayed) laptop would be obsolete upon release.

In a way.. well, we'll just wait and see.. :)

I may be wrong here but, i was under the inpressin that Montevina was the platform (motherboard) not the processor. This means to upgrade you will need a new motherboard, processor and RAM.... I don't think the chassis will be that agreable to that sort of changes lol

I kind of doubt that the release has anything to do with the new platform. I mean they had the "old" one that they put in the m15x for a long time to test and they still have issues with the design, chasis etc. If they are waiting for the new platform for the m17x they would have to test and redesign things which would delay m17x at best in autumn.
About the possibility that they're waiting for the 9800 to release it, I'm pretty sure it will take ages for that to come out too. I mean 8800 was released some 6 month ago, still lacks drivers and such so I would not expect a working 9800 in a laptop earlier than one year from now if not more.

I'd vote for a third option, they have most of the problems of the m15x in the m17x and they fear that releasing it now will damage the company image for good this time. But I hope to be wrong and to see the release soon enough and 17k scores in 3dmark'06 :D.

@fade to black if you don't like the question of the thread don't read the thread let alone answer to it.. ---- rep (yet again)

I first knew Alienware back in 2004. I had the m7700a. It was ok the first couple of months, but later it crashed on me. I had to send it back to Alienware twice. They changed the motherboard and the CPU. I sold that laptop earlier this year.

After that. I wanted to get the m9700. Later, I found out about the m9750 and I told myself I am definitely getting one. And After I heard about the m17x I was blown away.

Is this ever going to stop for me? Am I ever going to settle for a laptop? :(

    Hehe..Short answer - no. :D

Hasn't stopped for me in 9 years...Totally lost track of how many laptops I've been through. I've gotten so bad that my wife doesn't even flinch when I tell I've bought another one.

For me its always been Dell, but currently checking out the m15x...

Whatever bad translator you've been using wont work on a picture ;) Or are you going to say that you study German as well as French?

    basically, e-mail says:

    Dear Alienware Customer,

The m17x notebook is estimated to be released by the end of April. (That's the gist, the literal translation is basically: The m17x notebook is estimated to be on the market by the end of April)

Call our service lines blah balh, thank you for choosing Alienware blah blah

    With friendly greetings,

Tu as raison, mais il y a plus francais que les Allemands.

Il y eu un "owners lounge" pour les francais mais il n'est pas un "owners lounge" pour les Allemands... Nous sommes un minorité haha

Maybe I should start a German owners lounge? XD but it's have to be tedious rewriting what you said in english until there's a german/french mod...

I'm intrigued as to how Alienware will price the m17x....

ich bin auf das Board auch nur durch google aufmerksam geworden, da ich umbedingt infos zum M17x wollte, und da verzichte ich auch nicht auf Englisch zu posten^^

Yes but a German owners lounge would be very good, as my English is very bad-.- (Although i'm learning it for 5 years at school-.-)

    @M17x:
Do you think i should answer the mail and try to get some more information about the Notebook?

    4GB RAM
    2x 200GB 7,200 RPM Festplatten
    1920x1200 LCD
