I'm having a problem where whenever skype makes a sound (for incoming IM etc) and my headphones are plugged in, all sound being outputted cuts to the laptop's speakers for a second (as if I had unplugged the headphones) before returning to the headset. It can be annoying while listening to music/trying to be quiet. This may not be specific to the M17x but I havent experienced this problem on any other system. I've looked through all of skype's settings as well as the system sound settings and can't find anything that would cause this.

just a thought - call->audio settings - in the 'ringing' section there is a check box for 'ring PC speaker', have you got that checked?
