your system is an alienware, which is either a clevo or an Arima, yours is an Arima. Arima cooling systems are really bad, so do not be surprised if the system is pushing 90C on the graphics card.
I personally do not like temperatures above 60C, but most systems will run fine for extended periods at 75-80C. Your system should really not run hotter than 80C because it is very dangerous. The inner components are said to be able to take 100C, but believe me, any temp above 80C will really cut down system lifespan.
Electronics just become very inefficient in hot envionments, and at that high of a temp, its just a matter of time before the weakest link (usually a surface mount transistor) blows.

Get a good laptop cooler, cause it would be a shame if your expensive m17x burned up.

I almost 100% sure is saying the new Alienware chassis are unique to Alienware.
On the contrary most M17x users have had good cooling.

Eh, I have a m17x and the highest temperature i've reached on the GPU was 81 and that was after playing Bioshock for 6+ hours. My CPU never gets about 51....ever...

I'd say the m17x has a very good cooling system, certainly equal to the 9626 which also has 3 cooling fans (the m17x has 1 for the CPU and 2 for the two GPU's)

Apoc2k8 - When the GPU's are at 80 or so you can feel hot air being blown out the back but, this is normal and good really if they were at 80 and no air was coming from the fans your machine would be melting itself...

The m15x and m17x are made by Quanta for Alienware only

both m15x and m17x are AW-exclusive barebones made by Quanta. Arima made the m9750.

Thanks to everyone for confirming that the Alienware chassis is made by Quanta.
Agreed, the m17x has an excellent cooling system. I have been running my review unit through Futuremark benchmarks for over five hours and it is not even warm. The air coming out the back is hot, but what did you expect? The internal component temperatures are more than acceptable.

I have yet to see any complaints about the m17x's cooling ability . . . and that says a lot on these boards.

Sorry guys, for the mistake. Quanta makes pretty good chassis, but for 81C is still pretty hot for my blood.
The laptop is very expensive, so having a laptop cooler is a great idea especially for when you are gaming.

Quote: Get a good laptop cooler, cause it would be a shame if your expensive m17x burned up.

If you look at the design of the M17X, there's no need for a laptop cooler in my opinion...
it get's it's air from the "top" air intake's, going to the CPU an GPU and leaves trough out the back outlets..
so what can a laptop cooler do (from underneath), besides cooling the chassis and possible help the hard disks to keep cool (but i think it has not the effect you want from a cooler..

(the CPU and GPU have the biggest impact on the system regarding heat)

While you're correct that the m17x does not need a cooler, I have to point out that the speakers are not designated air intakes. Air CAN go through there, but the primary intakes are the perforations on the bottom and the air intakes under the palmrests.

Eh, is that your GPU temp. or your CPU temp.

If it's your GPU you've got nothing to worry about, that's cool (no pun intended) as i've said before, running Bioshock for 6 hours at 19020x1200 raised my GPU temp. to 81DegC... which is still "safe"

Thats amazing. Your laptop is honestly running great. 70C is VERY VERY cool for a notebook. Most people temps go into the 80's to low 90's.
