    M17x

But if Dell is replacing your M1730 you can fight for Dual 260's atleast, I'm getting dual 280's with Dual 8700's.

^^ Can you explain more detailed for me about the "replacing" part? Why and how Dell want to replace your old M1730 to a brand new M17x? I'm kinda new to this "replacing" stuff :p

I have had a lot of problems with the M1730 and finally after enough complaining and not being able to correct the problems they are replacing it.

Yes. There are quite a lot of users that are getting their 1730 replaced with an M17x. In all fairness, it's not like the company is just giving it to them and they are getting an incredible deal. I mean, they are getting a nice deal, but still, they had to deal everyday with headaches from their broken 1730. A fair trade for all the frustration I would say.

You gotta work and suffer for that replacement. It's the least Dell could do.

Oh yeah, I would pick the M17x.

I guess I made a mistake posting. I orginally started with a M1710 which Dell could not repair even after several attempts. Dell was supposed to send a brand new Alienware M17x replacement but instead sent me a refurbished M1730. I complained about getting the M1730 instead of the M17x so now they are exchaning the M1730 for the brand new M17x. The only problem that I have is the GPU and HDD is better on the M1730 and will only give equal or greater specs on the orginal M1710. I tried to pay the difference for the 260M SLI but they wouldn't go for it.

So my question is should I stick with the M1730 and probably have issues with the 8800 GTX's down the road or should I just go with the brand new M17x?

If I did decide to stay with the M1730 and the GPU did fail and couldn't be replaced, what are the chances that Dell would issue a second system replacement and would the specs be based off of the M1710 or M1730?

i started out with a 1710 and was given a replacement 1730 which i been using for about a year and a half. now its giving me issues but dell won't replace it with a aw and since they discontinued the 1730 they're giving me back money (value of the 1710 not the 1730). but the amount they're giving me back is more then i need to buy a really nice aw rig. go figure.

Best idea is ask for the Credit for the M1730 so you can pick the config.

I too am having issues with my M1730. they are replacing my 8800m GTX cards, heat sync, and fans.

1 week later, and I find my cards are on BO till Jan 18.
warranty expires tomorrow with accidental coverage too.

the "tech" tried to exchange mine for a M17x but his suppervisor said to set me up with 8700's until the new cards come in January.

I asked if the new cards dont arrive, since they arent being made anymore, do I get to still exchange?

he siad that is unsure, and that they will try to get me 9800 cards, but those are on BO too.

any advice on how to proceed? should I light them up and get it exchanged and call it good or wait and see.

extended warranty is 194 + 74 for complete care for 1 year...

    thanks in advance.

    oooo update
they came an installed my dvd drive today that was going bad, plus the other components, fan, heat sync, and a video card. I thought it would be the 8700 that i talked to them about...

well I didnt look at the new card, just seen it and thought, odd that got here fast.

after they get done I boot up and behold my display adapter is 8800 GTX... gasp
they found me a new 8800 card.

so tech calls me an hour later and says he has a video card to put in again and wanted to know whats up.

i told him to give me a few hours to see when I am available for the replacement.

so, here i am... do I have him come out and put in the 8700 card and then my 8800 card is gone and not useable again?

I dont want to loose my M17...

advice on how to proceed please.

feel free to contact me via msn too...

    edit
going to have them install new card and play dumb to it and see if I can still get new pc out of this since the ball is rolling that way...
