HAY guys i just installed warhammer age of reckogning, and im hearing a strange buzzing noise from i think is the hard drive, when i minimize out of game it stops but when its up i hear it? does anyone else hear this when playing WAR or wow for example?
i dont seem to get it when playing fallout 3 etc

What exactly does it sound like is it a whine? or a buzz? does it Click?
-
kinda like a clicking noise, its stopped it for now but it just does it now and again, as this game doesnt require a cd to play and maybe reading of the HD?
-
btw is 73 degrees C for my nvida gpu safe? also my 280 is on 67 degrees, after an hour of gaming? nto sure whats safe, its not over clocked as of yet as i need my other 280 replaced coz it wont work in sli mode =<

No it's a warning signal from your hard drive... it is telling you it is failing, it will die... you need to call dell
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Your GPU's are find, those are safe temps... if you went up into the high 80's or 90's I would be worried but your fine..
-
but it doesnt make the noise when playing any othe game or installing a game, just sometimes in warhammer when i change zone
-
it seems to have stopped now lol, so far, dont need another issue with an already out of action 280 lol
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Hmm ok then... it is still a warning though have you monitored the temps when playing Warhammer.... use HWmontior.... cuz then it sounds like your HDD is being over taxed for some reason... I think you still got a dud of a HDD but... let's see what's going on
-
is there any app that can check ur HD out? its never done it before, and its fine in everything with crysis etc. just strange it done that in warhammer though
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yea there are... gimme a sec I'll find the link for you
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
First use HWmonitor to monitor your temps and then http://www.hdtune.com/
-
There is a Hard Drive test program on the resource CD that came with your M17x as well. It might actually be the same as linked above, I'm not sure.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yea I'm trying to think of the one that does the latency test... do you remember which that is?
-
Its in here somewhere.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yea it was HDtune, it's what dell uses as well
-
ok im running it now, wont probs understand what the final results mean but ill post ere for u, thnx again guys
-
as the link above, my comp never freezes or stutters due to the HD just i can hear a noise, but i have reallly accute hearing! heres hopping scan shows no errors ;P
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Like Mandrake had said though there are varying degrees of damage
-
hows that? http://img20.imageshack.us/i/hdtunebenchmarknvidiast.png/
i didnt hear any funny noises, just vey quiet bleeping from the gpu
doing an error scan atm, will it show up if anything is wrong? -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
See I don't know how to read HDtune well... there's a program that detects latency and shows bars... anybody know what that program is.... green is healthy, yellow problem, red crap lol
-
no damage segments on the error scan thus far, it appears to be when i switch zone, its reading the HD but a bit louder, then its fine after like 30 sescs o0
-
ye hd tune has that also, its still scanning, all green
-
-
-
Thanks for the link Mandrake, tried it on my old HP laptop, first 30 seconds i get red bars to 4k haha. One bar almost to 8k, lol possibly bad HD? Edit: Haha dam I open a couple web tabs and i get almost 16k XD.
-
I just read your symptoms and it doesn't sound like a hard drive issue. Is it a "click" or more of a "screech"?
-
-
erm im not really sure, i checked my PC it does it too, sounds like a buzzing noise slightly but i only have it in WAR when i switched zones. and its not constant it sounds u can here wee breaks in between the noise, like its reading something -
its also not loud, the fan drowns it out and game sound u defo wont here it, just doing the HD error scan 1/2 way through and all green so far!
-
Sounds like coil noise from the GPU. Mainly hear it during gaming or whenever the GPU's are stressed right?
-
erm playing an online game, cant rly hear it while playing fallout3, i can mostly hear it on the left side near the number pad, but it stops after 10 secs after i do something like like loading screen etc
-
Hmm... is this a common issue with 500gb hdds? There was another thread of someone having a problem with their raid 0 2x 500gb hdds.
-
Your hdds is near the middle of the keyboard while you secondary gpu is by the number pad. Try using vsync to stop it, this will limit your FPS. There was another setting that helps but I don't remember it. I'll have to look it up.
-
do i do that in game settings? coz i dont think warhammer age of reck has vsync, so would i do that in nvida control pannel? thnx for the help again mandrake =)
-
Mandrake i love u!!!! u fixed it =)))) i just forced enabled it on rather than application decided and no clicking when loading zones! thank u m8 =)
-
Yeah both in the nvidia control panel or in games you can change it. Check your FPS to see if it's affected.
Glad it worked. -
only problem i find it a bit lagy on max settings with just one 280 on =(
what was the other setting m8? -
Did you turn off SLI? You shouldn't have to.
-
my SLI isnt working, when i have sli on i get a scren flashing white while the games running. i phoned them up and a techs coming round they think the bridge or the gpu isnt working on the 2nd card, so getting it replaced =( so just one 280 for now lol
-
You should probably get that fixed before troubleshooting too much further. I'll look up that other setting for you.
-
lol its fine now, i think i pulled the power out the back of the thing, so it went into the build in gfx card, hence why i was lagging lol =)
its really easy to pull out, thought it would take a bit moreof a yank to get it out ;P -
One other thing that might help since you have SLI off is turning triple buffering on in the Nvidia Control panel. Then again if it's working well it might not be worth the hassle. Game on!
-
thanx alot bro =) much appreciated! this beuty is a big learning curv for me comparewd to my old 5 year old single core xps! these forums are great and a big help for me =)
-
its still doing it now and again, its not that knoticable but it sounds like a very quiet dentist trill, (u can only here it if its dead quiet) is it defo just the coil spring thing, or can drivers make it better or worse?
-
you can't fix it alot of electronics do it
I've heard of nail polish being used to fix it -
is urs the same moo? can u here a slight buzzing almost when theres no sounds etc when gaming? coz it stops when i minimize, but starts when i maximize
-
ugh i hear my fan ... nothing else ...
-
i mean during gaming, if u mute the sounds? so far its only when i way warhammer MMOrpg, nothing with fallout as far as i can tell. As long as its normal and i dont havea issue with anything o0
-
