    Hi all,

My Nvidia Graphics Mode icon has periodically been disappearing from the icon tray since the first day I got this system. I haven't yet noticed a pattern behind this. When the Graphics Mode icon is not in the icon tray, it turns out the GTX 280 cards are also not shown in Device Manager, and the system is at that moment running off the integrated GeForce 9400 graphics chip set.

Rebooting does not bring the Graphics Mode icon back to the icon tray. The only thing that does bring it back is to put the system into Stealth Mode using the touch button, and then take it out of Stealth Mode, at which point I'm notified that I must reboot in order to bring it out of Stealth Mode. When the system comes back up again, the icon is back in the icon tray, and the GTX 280s are back in Device Manager, and the system is again using the GTX 280s.

Has anyone encountered this with their M17x? If so, has anyone figured out what's going on and how to solve the problem?

    Hi wornways

It also happens if you forget to turn the power on and M17x it boots into battery mode (9400 only) - even if you then apply power. Instead when you boot (you should be prompted to press F2 to get into the BIOS), select Graphics options, and enable Hybrid mode again, and reboot. The SLI icon should then show again if that's what you meant by the nVidia icon?

Keep away from Stealth mode - this is of no use to man nor beast imo, and more of a hazard than a benefit/feature (IMO) >8o)

So - always before powering on M17x, check power is plugged in and turned on at mains (guilty of this sometimes when I keep having to move laptop around). If you DO boot and get prompted to continue or Press F2, then even if you've turned the power on again - you'll need to re-enable Hybrid.

Put a hazard warning traffic cone or Police Don't Enter sign on your Stealth Mode button! >8oD

    Cheers
