I have 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz (2GB x 2) in my M17x-R2 right now, but want to upgrade to 8GB DDR3 1333MHz (4GB x 2) but I dont want to buy the RAM from dell. Theres is $500 just for one 4GB stick and RAM bought from DELL sucks as it has really high latency. I was thinking of buying the RAM from a high performance manufacturer like www.patriotmemory.com, but dont see any laptop RAM on their site. Does anyone know any other manufactureres besides DELL like Patriot Memory that sells HIGH PERFORMANCE DDR3 RAM for the M17x-R2?

Keep in mind that latency is relative to the clock cycles, not time. 9 in 1333 is approximately 5 in 800 or 7 in 1033. That being said, if they had the capability of making a chip in 1333 with a CAS of 5, they could use that same chip in a DDR2 800 stick with a CAS of 3. That's why you can't really compare latency of ram across different speeds.

Why is 8GB DDR3 RAM 1333MHz so cheap on NewEgg and so expensive at Dell's site? Its $1000 on dells site and around $400-$500 on new egg.

It's always really expensive when you buy from the manufacturer.

So after reading a review from someone that bought the G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ - Retail from NewEgg He posted in his review "Pros: Cas Latency even higher than advertised. Runs 8-9-9-24
Fast shipping and even better performance.
Lifetime Warranty" Is Cas Latency 8-9-9-24 better than 9-9-9-24? And is G-Skill RAM a good brand?

All these timings follow the jdec standards. If someone says the memory is reporting 8-9-9-24 the spd is still 9-9-9-24 but his machine is interpreting it differently for what ever reason. In other words unless you buy memory that is outside the jdec standards then it's all the same.
