Anyone else playing Battlefield 2 : Bad Company running dual HD 4870's getting tearing? I get great frame rates but I can't seem to stop tearing in the game (and yes, I know this is a problem point for the engine). I've tried the following with no success in a profile under ATi Tray Tools:

Created an ATi profile with vsynch enabled

Tried the flip queue on 1, 2 and 3

Tried to set desktop refresh and override, but the setting won't take

Manually forcing the frame rate to 60hz

EDIT: Forgot to mention I also turned on vsynch under advanced, thanks for the reminder Wattos!

I remember having this with BF2 but somehow got it stopped without much problem using basic settings, here i just can't It's very distracting and even disorienting when you move up to an object like a dumpster, turn and the thing splits the texture in like 3 strips

    Any ideas GREATLY appreciated!

The in game VSync is buggy and CCC override doesn't work either. Use D3DOverrider which is part of RivaTuner and you'll have no more tearing.

Install RivaTuner and there will be a D3DOverrider icon in the RivaTuner start menu folder. Run it, leave the settings at default and then start BC2.

    Problem solved ;)

My desktop has this issue and it's very frustrating it's not specific to the m17x2. Thanks for that fix I'll try it out also!

What is vsync and what is D3DOverrider? Like what do they do? Do I need them? Should I get them just in case?

Tio - "tearing" graphically looks like one half of the screen is slightly ahead of the other in rendering. The BF series is notorious for this though with a tweak or two you can get rid of it.

I could post a link to a purely technical answer, but... vsynch synchronizes the frames produced by the video card with your refresh rate, so each refresh of the screen is one complete output of the screen buffer. Tearing is eliminated because the system doesn't start working on the next frame and outputting it before the drawing of the current one is finished.

A technique for doing this is using the pre-rendering of frames; D3DOverrider allows the ATi setup to do this since D3D games don't turn this on by default nor does the Catalyst Control Center.

Using this utility will get rid of the tearing you get in certain games, and make the play smoother over all. At least in theory :)

For goodness sake jared, read the thread will you.

This solves the screen tearing problem in BC2 only, you don't need it for anything else.

And as regards a link how long does it take for you to type RivaTuner into Google?
