So I have the m5550 and of course it runs WAY too hot. Has the 7600 in it. Does the Ati run any cooler?

I have run Arctic Silver. Also have a notebook cooler :) Not really a problem I guess. I am just wondering if the ATI runs cooler? Already cleaned fans etc, reseated card. The whole 9. Still gets too hot and will artifact.

    1) Does it artifact when you first turn it on?
    2) Still under warranty?

@Mr. Moo - The M5500 and the M5550 were notorious for overheating. My friend has a M5500 and his temps got up to 109C at one point which was ridiculously hot. My M5550 got up to 98C and then it throttled back in order to keep itself from self destructing.

Long story short, the M5550 is trouble. Try getting some AS5, cleaning your fans, and keeping the notebook on a notebook cooler. If you still have your warranty I'd suggest you take full advantage of it.

It may be under warranty. I think I got the 3yr. I will give them a shout. Doubt from reading Ill get anywhere which considering it was 2600 bucks sucks. I also got jacked by my dog coming out of a trailer camping and it took a digger, they prob would decline the claim on that even tho it was hot hot hot way before that. Ill check temps and get back.

Ya My M5550 went to 110c and then shut off No Fan activity. Then when I rebooted the Fan would kick on. That why the Alienware techs did not see the problem Frist hand.

Call Roswell. They are a better tech support division of Alienware than the standard support. 1-866-ROSWELL.

One of my m5550's would artifact as soon as it turned on. Called Roswell, sent it off, received it with a new card the same week. Now that's service.

@Mr Moo - I used to flame people back when I used to be a lot more active on here for asking about "WHAT RAM SHOULD I GET" when there was another thread 5 posts down with that question answered already. :)

Anyways. I hope everything works out. I'll try to follow this thread but I haven't been on that much lately and just pop my head around from time to time.

Don't get rid of the heatpads. They are there for a reason. Maybe you can AW to send you some new heatpads, the old ones are probably worn out from the constant heat.
