Yea the huge problem I have now it that I'm taking a Photoshop course in my school, and I kind of need the laptop. It sucks when not having a laptop reduces your grade in a class because you have to use equipment you're not familiar with :(

sucks 2 be you.. :O i've never had any problems with support .... the only thing wrong with m5550 is that the screen stays black sometimes waking up from hibernate.

with my 7600Go i get 50-60 fps in CSS playing on 1900x1200 resolution with all max settings :O so somethings wrong with yours heh.

fans kick in at 42 degrees until it drops to 30-32 then shuts off.... playing games its about 50-55 degrees

Okay. So I have solved one problem but I still have others.

My gaming performance is good now. I get around 110-120FPS in the CS:S stress test with everything on high which is much better. However, I still don't know if it will overheat or not, and I also have a keyboard issue, and no sound :(

So my laptop is still behind where it was on day 1 :)

At least it can play games now, I'm calling up that guy tomorrow and telling him to send me a new keyboard ASAP.

This is awesome. The guy doesn't know how to make a bootable CD so that I can upgrade my BIOS to 2.07. We've been on the phone for 30min. This is great! lol...

He wants to just start installing **** on my computer now. WTF not letting him do it. Hes looking for a free ISO burner...

He just downloading Speeditupfree 4.0 to my computer. I'm really unsure whether to just hang up right now. I didn't know alienware techs installed bloatware onto your system when you were using remote sharing.

Edit: Well he deleted it off of my desktop before he installed it, wheww. He still can't manage to make a bootable CD though, starting to piss me off.

Am I allowed to update the BIOS myself? I'm sick of this bull****. I've just wasted 40 minutes and 2 blank CD's...

    Jeez...

Yep. Except he couldn't figure out why nero wouldn't burn a bootable CD for me. He installed 2 other programs, and the 2nd one finally worked. This is my second time updating the BIOS so I'm going to keep this CD safe so I don't have to deal with that BS again :)

Also: The tech on the phone says that I have another bad motherboard, so my laptop is going to have to go into service again. I told him that if it was sent in again that would be the 4th or 5th time being sent in, and the 3rd time in a month being sent in.

He sent an email to my critical issues agent, and I did as well. Since I've sent the laptop back twice in a row, before I sent it back the second time I told the Crit Agent that I wouldn't send it back again and he ASSURED me that it would be carefully looked over in service. Hmm... I call shenanigans.

I'll update you guys when he gets back to me about whats going to happen.

Yea, I have a critical issues agent assigned to me, but they only work from I think 11-6 on weekdays, and not on weekends, which is quite annoying trying to contact them since most normal people don't usually get home until 5 or 6 anyways.

I sent him an email on saturday, and I'm really hoping that he can respond to me by today, or maybe at the latest tommrow.

Yea, I would edit stuff... but I like to keep the information new and fresh to keep this thread alive :)

I'll let you guys know what he tells me is the "best" course of action in this situation.

It is kind of annoying when the Critical Issues agent that promises that this will be fixed as fast as possible doesn't respond to your emails...

You have to be hard on them Stone. I know I done it and my system is running fine. I use a camra to force them there was a problem the mother board fan was working but the motherboard did not control the fan right.

Now I am running Lord of the Rings shadow of Angmar at high speed with 30fps to 40fps Max out grapics and Winamp 5.5. It only turn off once.

Nice man. My mom just texted me and told me that AW would send me out a new laptop. Hopefully they don't send me out a refurb. or something. I'm just hoping that this next one works 100%.

Oh and I used to play LOTR:O but as much as I wanted to play, my school and life came before it :(

I'm hoping that everything goes well, I just want a laptop that works.

Actually, I just recieved a suprise from my mom. She called up the critical issues agent, and he said that they will refund all of the money, assuming all of the products are returned.

This is great news, because having a notebook for 14 months that never worked 100% was VERY annoying. I have the notebook and extra batteries that came with it, and I think I have most of the accesories. I'm sure that I'm not going to get all 3K for the laptop back, but I will get most of it, which will be fine.

Final Words: Some people new here are probably thinking that I "scammed" AW. This isn't the case at all. Older people here know that I've been posting on these fourms about this problem since I've joined. I am glad that they didn't try to screw me over by sending out another laptop. I would have been fine with a credit if the M15x was out, but I really don't think I want a 17" notebook yet, especially one with not so good battery life, since I will be using whatever I get next on the road/school a lot I think.

I lied, mom told me the wrong thing. I'm actually getting credit to put towards a new system. I want to wait for the M15x, but I kind of need a laptop, so I'm unsure of the M9750, I'll read up on it though.

Is the quickship version of the 9750 good?

So that will leave u with no option left? m9750 and m17x are 17 inchers... I suggest u shud wait for m15x. Seriously, the wait will be worth every second of it. You get m9750, u'll be happy for what, say 5 months tops (say Alienware overpromise and deliver m15x/m17x April 2008) but if u wait, u'll be happy for at least the next one or two years.

Plus, since u mention road and school, 15 incher would be just great for ya! 17 incher is just too heavy and big. It's not just the weight will cause you problem, anything from desk size to suitable backpack will cause u bunch of headaches.

Another thing, If I really getting m9750 now, I won't go for QuickShip. QuickShip means the laptop is ready there for you, and that could mean u receive a refurb or returned m9750 (maybe a customer cancel an order and return within 30 days). To be honest, I accidentally did cancel an order once. If time is really my concern, I will make sure the QuickShip is not a refurb or any kind of that.

Well, time is a concern since they are giving me credit towards a new system. They do not require they I send the laptop in until after I get my new one. I would wait for the M15x. However, I'm in a Digital Arts class right now in my school and I need a notebook, so waiting for the M15x is not an option. I'm a pretty big guy (195lbs) and I work out / sports so it should be good for me if anything.

I didn't go for quickship btw.

Well I am glad you have the problem solved. I think Alienware understand that the area 51 5550 was not there best setup. On paper it Look to be a Great setup. But in real life. To many people are having to many problems. With you and me and the people on Alienware forums prove this fact.

    Stuff I had replaced was

    Motherboard
    CDRW drive
    Grapics Card
    4 Heatsinks

    Stuff I upgraded
    Ram 2gb
    250 gb hard disk.

If they offered me the credit I would of taken it. Send this one back wait for the newer core 2 800fsb or 17 inch Desktop replacements that use desktop cpus.

What you should do is Explain to alienware is your in school you need a light fast laptop. If they can send you a working area 51 5550 Untel the newer 15 inchs come out and then take the credit.

My last 17 Inch laptop was a Pro Star P4 3.4ghz extream Edtion with L3 2mb cache with 2 80gb hard disk and the battery life is not very good at the most 1 Hour. About 15lb

Last thing On the Lord of the Rings Shadow of Angmar. If you need help or your going to restart the game join server Meneldor. I will help you level up and give you the run around on the game. My nicks are Zantar, Atol, Tarvos, or Ghosly. Zantar is my Main He a elf Lore master.

Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know if I start playing again.

Honestly, I really don't like the M5550. I really don't want to get into the whole deal of having them send me a credit if the new one works. Really, I can carry an extra few pounds here is what I've heard about the M5550 vs the 9750.

    Weight
    M5550: 7lbs
    M9750: 8.5-9lbs

    Battery Life
    M5550: 1h35m
    M9750: 1h15m (both suck lol)

    Form Factor
    M5550: Standard 15"
    M9750: Pretty slim and light

If the m9750 was like the new clevo laptop, I would have never touched it. Since it isn't a beast, I can deal carrying it around. Also, I'm going to love the 1920x1200 screen for Photoshop and Premiere.

Nope, the 9750 is in no way a re badged Clevo D900c. 2 years agos model was the 900C re branded. I forget exactly the alienware model name, but they started using a chassis that no one else uses with the 9700 model.

The chassis is MUCH slimmer and lighter than the Clevo D900C.
