    hi bros.

actually, my M7700 has the same problem with the review from Notebookreview.

when i plug in the headphone/speakers, it seems that the sound card hole is SO LONG, and the speakers and headphone CAN NOT get the right signal as usual.

I have to insert it harder and got the right signal but need to hold hands there.
If I leave my hand, the sound will be bad asap.

Please share your experiences to me to treat this problem.
DO I need to buy another PCMCIA sound card to work for this one. Actually, I could not understand why Alienware produce the sound card hole like this.

It is a pain to try to plug the headphone there and got the wrong signal as the song should be.

UPDATE: I tried to look at my Sound, Video and Game controler, all of them stated working properly, but the LOCATION for hardware is UNKNOWN. Is this the problem with XP SP3?
    Who can help me this?
I would rather downgrade to XP SP2 than XP SP3 as it has many conflict that I've ever had before.

    Thank you

I seen some USB headphones/mic it might be the best idea. Headphone jack tend to go bad after a while. The other idea is try a differnt headphones.

    thanks bro.

do you know why the quality of the music in M7700 is not good, even if it has 5.1 stereo sound card (but cheap one AC97).

I heard by its speakers is OK a bit (not so good), but when i attach headphone and external speakers, it is really bad.

Is that the conflict between XP SP 3 with M7700, do i need to return XP SP 2.

If I reinstall XP SP 2, which device and drivers I need? could u show me where can i take them?

I only found the drivers for D900T (M7700 is D900K) and I confused can I use these drivers for my M7700?

    thanks so much

The audio from the speakers on the D900K is good, however the input for the headphones is poor. When you insert the headphones, you will get crackling and popping noises. This is from an improper seal on the audio chipsets VRM. It is a problem nearly all D900K's have.
You can physically go about fixing your problem in particular by taking your system apart and soldering a new headphone jack on. It is not all that hard. Dismantling the chassis is hard the first time, but soldering and replacing the jack is easy. You can buy new headphone jacks at Digikey, Mouser Electronics, MPJA, or a good electronics store

You can fix the popping and crackling noise by replacing the onboard capacitors and voltage regulators for the audio card with ones which do not leak. Again you can find them on Mouser, Digikey

    thanks bro K-TRON.

Now everything is really fine for me.
I did not change or buy something.
I install WINAMP with DFX 8.5.
Then, i tried to control the AUDIO Equalizer of WINAMP, and set the Equalizer on RealTek Sound Manager from the laptop, and the quality now is PERFECT as I expect.

Yeah. Perfect. Not only on the laptop itself but also on headphone and external speakers.
