My rig is an M9700 with a turion 64 @ 2.21 ghz and 2GB of ram (from factory). I am currently running windows xp 64 with service pack 2. This version of windows was obtained through a torrent. I have been scouring the internet (and this website) for drivers that I can use to get my hardware running, and it has pretty much come down to the audio being the last thing. Unfortunately, no matter what executables or zip folders I download, the system cant properly recognize the audio device (listed as multimedia audio controller under "other devices"). The file that is listed under the sticky for the m9750 does not seem to work. When i downloaded the zip folder, I ran the setup and it informed me: "Install Microsoft HD Audio QFE File (KB835221.exe) Failure !!" When I try to manually point the hardware wizard to the directory to update the driver, it tells me that there are no driver files in that directory (WDM_R207), nor do i have any luck with its subfolders (config, MSHDQFE [which itself has two respective subfolders, WIN2K3 and WIN2K_XP], and WDM). It seems to me like the MSHDQFE folder contains the type of file that setup needs to complete but when running any one of the executables located, it tells me they are designed for a different hardware platform (it may be worth mentioning that they have similar names to the failing setup file).

Is there anyone out there with any ideas? Is there a file I can edit to make these drivers suitable? can anyone email me or send me these proper files? I just want to get my audio working. I really hate letting this 64 bit cpu go to waste.

PS: completely aside, for some reason the "@" symbol is reversed with the " key, meaning i have to SHIFT+" for @ and SHIFT+@ for ". what could cause the keyboard mapping to mess up like that?

PPS: with this new 64 bit, can i upgrade to over 2 gigs of ram? or is my motherboard limited to 2 gigs?

I hate to be a wet blanket, but trying to get a 64 bit OS on an m9700 is more trouble than it is worth. 2 GB RAM is the max you can go, and as you have found out, there is a lack of drivers for the other hardware. Even though they heavily promoted that it had a Turion 64, it is pretty worthless for 64 bit. As a matter of fact, the CPU is the weakest part of this thing, and is the only part of it making me want an upgrade to a new machine. Well, that and the 2 GB limitation.

I started with XP MCE on this thing and am now running Vista Ultimate 32 bit on it. I think you would enjoy it more with either of those 2 OS's on it. No issues with drivers or software. I'm saving the idea of 64 bit for Windows 7 and a new laptop. In any case good luck, but I have no suggestions for working sound, and am surprised if you got the webcam working.

Also you mentioned m9750 drivers. There is no like hardware between an m9700 and an m9750, even though they are different colors of the same case.

The owners manual recommends PC3200 RAM. Can i buy faster ram, or will it just downclock to whatever the appropriate bus speed is (leaving me to have to overclock it manually?)
