i have an alienware M9750 i would like to know if i can get someone who has one and has played the following games to tell me what my min and max fps will be.
i hav the dual 8700s for my graphics
Half-Life 2
Counter-Strike:Source
Team Fortress 2
Gears of War
Call of Duty 4

Hi,
You need to provide more info. What resolution and settings? I can tell you that you will most likely be able to max everything out on Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike:Source. Team Fortress 2 was broken by the latest update, so you won't play well on any settings. Gears of War and Call of Duty 4 will have to be played on a resolution less than max and probably on medium setings. Gears of War will have a tendency to slow down because the Unreal Engine isn't stable with frame rates.

i use res of 1280 x 1024 mostly xD
-
Oh ok. You'll be good then. But I'd suggest bumping to 1280x800. Unfortunately, I don't own my m9750 anymore, so we'll have to find someone for numbers. Things will only perform better the lower the resolution.

also can u run crysis on high with that m15x my brother has 1 of those he uses defeault res i believe and hes worried bout over heating
-
The m9750 won't run on high. There's just not enough horse power. However, if you have a m15x, you can probably bump it up to high pretty easily (I didn't get to since mine is in repair). I wouldn't worry about heat. It will turn off if it overheats. But as long as he's kept up with the current version of the BIOS, he should be ok.

k thanks. i was look for somehting cheaper than an alienware but better specs
-
Alienware computers are actually at decent prices right now. If you're looking for cheaper, take a look at sager. Some people seem to be pretty happy with those.

Nirvana.... you sneaky devil... I could have predicted that lol

I have an m9750 and in CS with all settings maxed it really depends on which map you are on... I have been on small gg maps though that I've gotten about 200 FPS before.
-
The Alienware M9750 (re-branded Arima) can still play games fine... maybe not at the highest settings or resolutions though.
The only thing(s) that are weird to me is that I cannot believe people are still buying a system that:
- it is over 2 generations (Napa platform) behind in technology with little to no hope of upgrades...
- the CPU is the rare first generation of mobile Core 2 Duo's
- the memory is limited to 3GBs (due to mobile Intel 945 chipset)
- SATA-I (150Mb/s) HDD support
- and no hope for videocard upgrades (since Alienware does not have contracts with Arima anymore when they moved to Quanta for the new M15x/M17x systems) -

Sager NP5793
i was looking at getting 1 of those cuz my friend got 1 with like all the best stuff and it works well with most games -
gabe what got u on repair 2?

Also, even though there aren't upgrades coming anymore for GPUs, it does support Nvidia's: 7950GTX, 7950GTX SLi, 8700m GT, 8700m GT SLi, and Quadro FX 1600m...
So while I see what you're saying about 1st gen C2D, I don't think you are really spot on on these other things. Because really the specs that the m9750 has are pretty good still IMO. Especially with a $1300 starting price tag. -
Do your research, the mobile Intel 945 chipset does not see more than ~3GB.... due to low-level limitations... regardless of what OS you use.
Some people may have bought a Napa platform notebook and stuck 2x2GB (4GB) in the system, but the BIOS will not see beyond 3GBs.
Show me a Napa notebook that can see (in the BIOS or POST) 4 gigs of RAM... not going to happen.
When Santa Rosa (mobile Intel 965 chipset) came out, the full 4GB was supported.
Geez... I even wrote that in the RAM Deals thread a long time ago when I created the thread. -

Also, a simple change in the BIOS for the chipset that doesn't recognize 4 GB makes it possible... because it isn't a hardware limitation it's a simple software one. -
again... show me a Napa platform notebook that can see 4GBs... I have yet to see one that with the hundreds that I have worked with, and the many others that people bought the 4GB kits for.
-
If you are wondering, do a search in these forums for M9750 owners that confirmed it... as well as other high-end Napa platform systems (like Clevo M570U... Sager 5760).
Here is some Googles...

too easy to do these searches. -
Hi edeag,
Take a look at this thread:

Ive never had any Problems with the games listed, max settings, 1440x900 never below 60 FPS

i have a question. is the m9750 able to be upgraded by the user or is that only for the m15x and the m17x
-
- CPU
- RAM
- HDD
- Optical Drive
- Wi-fi card
- Videocard module (depending on the model and the video modules available) -
pretty much my question is can i upgrade my GPU on the m9750
-
You only have these videocards* to choose from (which may still be available to purchase):
- 7950 Go GTX
- 8700M GT
- Quadro 1600M
* Note: these have to be the Arima Special-MXM format... which can mainly be purchased through Alienware or Arima.... and maybe through www.mxm-upgrade.com -

Yup those three cards are supported, and although the 7950 GTX isn't made anymore (I don't think) but the others are still in production.
