it would appear that the USB 2.0 Functionality on this machine is gone. Anything plugged in causes the "work better with a hi-speed port" box to pop up.

Webcam is also not recording video.

problem started after vista updated itself.

have already tried reinstalling the chipset drivers for the Alienware site. no joy.

have uninstalled and reinstalled the Host controllers.

    Still no joy.

anyone have any kind of clue, I am stumped

Does anyone look at these issues?

I guess I'll try and get ahold of alienware itself, because I had the same issues with Vista and windows 7.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

How many items are plugged into your USB ports?

The 9750 used a serial type of power distribution on these ports, the more USB2 devices you plugged in the less power for the next device. It became just an USB1 port in essence. Remove one see if that helps.

Basically, one at a time, a thumbdrive, an external drive(With own power). It is not even saying that it is a enhanced usb controller anywhere in the device manager(and it use to).
