Hey guys basically ive been tempted in buying the dell studio 17 for a few weeks now and i have always wanted an AW laptop so i have devised a nice cheap m9750 spec thats in manyways better then the dell xps line IMO.

Soo for the price diffarence of around £200 to go for the AW which would you recomend and is the m9750 no just a crappy laptop or does it still hold some prestiege within the 17" ranks?

Regardless of which laptop i will be buying i will format it to XP so i dont really care on how stuff will run with vista and if i do buy the m9750 i will be upgrading the RAM to 2gigs asap and ill add another HDD at somepoint.

the M9750 will cost around £1,050 in upgrade to 2gig of RAM
the Dell Studio 17 will cost £760

In terms of what gaming i will be doing on this laptop well i wont be playing crysis for starters all i want this laptop for is to game on the go a bit like play WAR (warhammer online which is a little bit more graphics hungry then WoW), CoD4, C&C3 and maybe UT3 if i will run, i definatly want to run WAR under max grapghics as well as the rest if possible. So yea whats your verdict guys, is it worth spending the extra £250 for AW and the beautiful presence it has?

P.S does anyone know if the AW odessey messenger bag will hold either of these 17" lappys?

the m9750 is still ok for gaming...

the m9750 will play games much better than the studio 17. it is pretty outdated but its supposed to be one of the good machines AW's ever made. well as long as you don't start pulling your hair out because of SLI :D

    Dell XPS M1530
Dell XPS M1730 (might be too large)
    Dell Studio 17

www.dell.com/outlet (trust me buy from the dell outlet it is 10000x better).

Personally I would go with the XPS M1530 with the 8600, 4GB ram, 2.0 or 2.2Ghz processor and whatever hard drive you need from the outlet. You only pay ~$1100 if you do it that way :)

yea no outlet for me and what is Sagers?

and also i dont want the m1530 i would much prefer the studio 17 for the ability to customize the top of the laptop and the backlit keyboard but the m9750 has been in my eye for a year or so im just wondering if it is worth forking out the extra £250 or so for the honor of having that AW laptop

Nah personally I would say having an Alienware laptop is over rated, but that is MY opinion.. I think that carrying it around and pulling it out can be kind of embarrassing because of the alien head.

In addition, with the AW you will only be able to support 2.5GB of ram with 2 video cars and 3.0GB or ram with no SLi. The M9750 is outdated technology so at least in a technical stand ponit I wouldn't recommend it to you. If you are stuck between the studio 17 and the M9750 I would say the Studio 17 but also give Clevo / sager a look (ask a euro person here to find a good distributor in the UK

Thanks for the help and I wouldent get sli like I said I'm on a budget and the alien head would make me feel better then pulling out something with a dell logo.

With this laptop I want something unique and AW does have that appeal yet the studio has the mike Ming editions which I also love. I I did look at the Sager stuff looks good and prices are great but I want a unique laptop rather then a nice spec in a generic box.

Also if everone is saying the m9750 is old tech even with the 8700m GPU what about the studio which is about the same spec
