id wait. the 8700m gt and the t7600 are weak and not updated. therefore, the memory is limited to the CPU speed or less, i believe 667mhz or 800mhz. so id wait for better components (the 9 series of nvidia cards, which have been out for a while now, and the P montevina series refresh. Example is a p8600 or p9500.) If not, wait even longer for the CPU's with a 1333mhz FSB, 4GB DDR3 1333mhz RAM, and a 9 series or newer graphics card. i believe the next series will be the 200's

I don't think there will be another 17" model for maybe another 9+ months. It's a bit heavy, but the m17x seems like a very solid machine. Dual 9800M GTs will last a while.

if you get an m9750 then that would be a total waste, because in 5 months or so, you'll have to lower your settings. so you'de better wait.

There is no reason to buy an m9750 at this point, unless you're completely enthralled with the aesthetics of the case and are willing to compromise price and performance for it. You'd do much better to get something like a Gateway P-7811 FX for less money. I don't anticipate any upgrades for the m9750 at this point. I say this as a very satisfied owner of an m9750, but it's just not competitive anymore.

You might want to consider better alternatives, if you aren't set 100% on an Alienware. Check out the computers at darksmileysystems.com

They're a Sager reseller. They offer a fairly light 17" laptop called the NP5796. The NP5793 is on a very, very nice sale right now if you're going to purchase it.

The OCZ whitebook is another great option, as it is basically a new version of the M970 without alienware branding.
