Got a m17x as a replacement fot a xps1730 .I have had many freaze ups and blue screans of death. I have had to respawn and even reload windows from disk .Would I be able to get a replacement .It seems to me that it would be very hard to get a system for softwear related problem.

Maybe your fans are malfunctioning, hence the high temps and BSODs. You should start by checking your temps, clean the system from dust, replace TIM (if needed), check the RAM/HDDs for being a culprit, update the BIOS, re-install the OS and latest drivers. And then , if the problem persists ask Dell for help. But they most likely will start by replacing mobo/fans/GPUs, if that doesn't help you might get your entire system replaced with the same generation. Keep in mind, every replaced part is gonna be refurbished, so I'd do it if and only if nothing else helps.

They are also getting tougher on replacements too. Especially right after something new comes out. That's when all the problems with people's laptops seem to come out of the woodwork.
