What's the model of your laptop ? What exactly happens when you turn it on ? maybe provide a picture ? does the computer beep/the lights flash ?

You can find your account number when you log in to your account on Dell.

And you can check for Service Tag (7 digits and letters) on the bottom of your laptop. That should be enough.

    Good to know lol

Now I am 100% sure this the inverter cable that is broken. I had the exact same issue with my m1730. There is a cable connecting the LCD to the motherboard/video card. Either it has a bad contact or it needs reseating but I am positive the problem is there. You just need to figure out how to get to it. It was trivial on m1730 but I have no idea how to access it on m17x. Ask around in the forum. It should be easy.

    Its not that difficult.

remove the back and then find the 2 long screws that hold the power strip. carefully remove watching out for the ribbon cable, undo the 5 screw that hold the keyboard, remove the 2 ribbon cable that hold the keyboard on.

you then have access to the conectors for the Lcd.

its not that difficult just take your time and be careful removing the ribbon cables!

your service tag should be on the bottom of your laptop, if you should need it.

also here is a link to the service manual if you wish to take your laptop apart.
    hope all goes well :D

Just use the sevice tag when you call dell. It'll be on the bottom of the system. If your within the warranty period they will take care of it

My first guess would be to check the connection between the lcd and gfx card. Something probably happened when you last closed the lappie

Also, can you try and plug in an external monitor? this should verify the gfx card.

In any case, the lappie is on warranty, call dell to have it fixed. There is nothing you really can do by software to fix it
