Hi I just wanted to say that the audio problems have not been fixed still.

I don't know if there is a thread about it, so I made this one..

    My audio issues:

Major DPC issues, glitching as soon as anything happens using the GUI (open a new window or browse the web while playing a video for example).

Most games work okay, but feel like the audio acceleration isn't working (it probably doesn't have any I guess).

Most audio apps I'm using have laggy response, lose timing through clicks and pops and have a generally average sound quality.

    Using an express-card helps.

Not sure what is going on, but it is okay sometimes and awful other times..

The only work-around that i've found to work is to UNINSTALL the Drivers and then INSTALL THE OFFICIAL DRIVERS AND DON'T REBOOT - then as long as you don't reboot things seem to work as intended with lovely low latencies..

yea same experience keeping the drivers and not rebooting seems to make it very nice but once you reboot the problems come at you from all directions pops, crackling, stop and start during videos etc.

The problems relates to your GFX card and the way it alters power states and frequency's when clocking up or down it can cause a spike, from what im aware of nvidia has a fix but has not released it in the mobile drivers yet as they didn't make it in to the last release.

The only thing i can think of is by uninstalling the drivers then reinstalling without a reboot you are forcing the GPU not to clock up and down.

*edit* if you can get it to install the latest GFX drivers for the m17x contain DPC latency fix.

Thanks for the link, I'll try the drivers with the DPC fix!!

It's not the clocking up or down of the GPU though, I'm sure of that. I am forcing my GPU to stay at the same clocks. Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

It is about the DPC in general which seems to be pretty messed up on this system actually.. CPU clocking is more likely to be the cause.. But as you suggest I'll try those drivers because there is definitely something very wrong with the DPC over here..

The cpu is fast but in general very sluggish performance. I tweaked it up by turning off C1e and EIST but it's still laggy and irregular. I then turned off turbo which makes everything run slower, but stopping the CPU from clocking up and down definitely helped a bit.

I just made a post about it also about a new application I use that's much more powerful..

Pras, you might want to check out StamatisX's thread on running a trace. If you do this, we'll be able to pin down a bit better what is causing any DPC Latency. See the thread for more info -
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=461247

Also note, it is not necessary to use the test case outlined. What I suggest is running the trace and then do whatever it is you do to cause your audio issue to surface.

Please post results in the linked thread.

    Thanks Jasp

    It worked!!

The DPC fix in that driver seems to be working for me so far. Didn't test extensively.

Thanks Batboy, I'll take a look if I keep having dpc issues. :)

So far it's fine. The driver says Crysis loses performance but haven't checked. WIll report anything odd if I come across it !!

    Thanks for the tip!!!!

lemme know cause i will want to update to that driver if it doesn't kill my fps too much because the audio stutters are really annoying since i paid a lot for this machine

Well, Crysis does run much slower actually

Personally I've played it enough not to care.. If you love crysis I would stick with a normal driver for now.

I agree that with such an expensive machine, the QC and testing cycles need to be longer or better.

These kind of problems can crop up if a machine isn't as well designed as it's claimed to be.. Oh well.. Still a beautiful machine :)
