Okay so I got my Alienware yesterday for Christmas, and I ordered it with Windows 7 (came as an external CD drive) And I turned on my new laptop, it was working fine.
So my command center, and my wow was working. But I decided to install the windows 7, and then now my command center has been moved to windows.old and I cannot open it by pressing the command center key. And my games are gone. My wallpapers are gone to.
- So if you have an answer for this please answer this thread.
Best Regards

The wording "Major problem" scared me since somehow I always relate it to hardware malfunction and stuff.
For godsake its a minor software problem after all lol. -
in fact SillyHoney, it is not just a minor, because it may result in a crash. And if it was a hardware I would write that.
- I downloaded the command center but only the FX is showing up... everything else i gone -.- .. -
If you don't know how to deal with Re-Installing windows, you should probably not have done it yourself.
The M17x is fine, you just need to learn about PC Computers and what Re-Installing windows is. -
jesus, I cannot get anything to work... the command center will only show the fx, and I cant get any light on my keyboard, I cant even choose it in the command center... :s
-
Well I have done a lot with computers before and so on , but I was just wondering if it is possible to go back to the "first" windows 7 that was on the computer so my command center should work. And I would have the wallpapers...

Anyone can send you wallpapers or you can look at the link in Sleey's sig.
For the Command Center. If it doesnt work, it's weird. Try reinstalling that.
If you still have your AlienRespawn partition you can restore your machine. Restart you machine to see if "Press F2 to launch AlienRespawn... blah blah... is still there.
BTW in my first post I just made fun of it. But honestly when I looked at your post I thought your M17x was defective. Glad its not -
yeah but when they disappeared I kinda freaked out
.
I have tryed to reinstall the command center... doesnt work.
I have my AlienRespawn disc, but the question is, will it remove the windows 7 I installed over the other Windows 7? That my laptop was delivered with?
haha ok, well so am I haha ... I would kill my self if my graphic cards were dead... lol
-
but will it remove the windows 7 I installed?

Respawning will make your computer exactly how it was when it shipped, I believe.
Make sure you have all the necessary drivers installed too, not just command center. -
I recommend doing the Alien Respawn and then enjoying your powerhouse laptop for the holidays before delving into a fresh Win7 load. -
okay thx you guys.
- but it is no longer 30 days, it is 21 days... and it arrived the 9th of December... so q: I only got a few days lol -
Did you do a clean install of win7 or upgrade from vista? Either way, you might as well just format and clean install if it won't work..then install the drivers/apps in proper order. There's a link on the site posted somewhere for the order..can't remember off hand tho
-
I had windows 7 on it, but I upgraded to windows 7 (it was in the middle of the night) I was tired lol.
- I tried to use the AlienRespawn, but I simply just cannot get it to work.
If someone could give me a picture guide, I would highly appreciate it! -

Thank god BatBoy you put your old sig back. I was looking for your mod
I did noticed in your Merry X-mas sig was hell a lotta languages, included my native language -
thx but, it didnt really help me that q: .
Ive tryed to do the AlienRespawn, but when the prompt is loading and I press R nothing is happening -
I would personally recommed you call Alienware Tech Support. They're trained (and paid) to help people with basic computer knowledge who need step by step instructions and don't understand fully the implications of what they're doing, especially important when doing things like reformatting and instaling Windows. Also, they can send someone out to you if all else fails. You paid for the service when you bought the computer.
-
i agree there its best at this point just to have the tech come out and do it
-
I may be wrong, but the standard warranty service does not cover an onsite tech to 'reinstall the OS'. Call Dell, they will be able to point you in the right direction. Depending on your coverage, they may walk you through a solution to recover the OS using the respawn partition or they may charge a fee to diagnose the issue since its software related. Not saying its 'right', but its how Dell tends to operate. The My Tech Team option/coverage may do this at no cost. Not sure.
You might be able to request a respawn disc, just ask them nicely
Hope it works out. -
your right batboy that is a "level 1 techs" job. The policy is that the phone people handle that and it does not warrant a actual technician to come and do it.
But at this point it would be best for dell to handle it what ever way they choose -
Ehm, Has the command center any advantages towards gaming (not talking about the coloured lights) like overclocking? As far as i've heard it makes the boot time of your laptop way slower.
-
its useless and only alienfx matters
-
ok thx you guys! you rock!
- calling alienware support now -
haha just insert the disc in then boot from it and do a fresh install its not rocket science
-
But I got my problems fixed -
Okay, so now I have another problem, even tho it is not major
.
- When I try to open wow, it says:
Failed to find a suitable display device. Exiting Program.
Do I need a driver? -
wait, open what?

Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
TangoCharlie: All you needed from the start was uninstall the windows vista drivers and install new Windows 7 drivers. It should have been that simple. -
Well, I spoke with the an AW supporter today, it took us over 1 hour. He gave up in the end. Then he had to ask his boss... kinda sucked lol. Oh well, the thing he got to work was my keyboard. But he couldnt do anything about my other errors, such as my alienrespawn or anything. :s
-
You need to learn about computing and should never have re-imaged your hard disk from the default judging from your extremely basic level of understanding how Windows works. Windows is just the OS, you need to install the Dell drivers on top of that. Go to http://support.dell.com and start installing drivers related to your machine (as has already been mentioned in this thread.)
Focus on primarily installing the Dell ATI driver (found on the support website under video.) that will get WOW working again for you. -
okay Nickbarbs. I understand more than that. And the problem is that I have already downloaded all the drivers... and installed them, but for what so ever it wont work.
-
driver also must be installed in a certain order, the wrong order could cause issues with other drivers.
you should also read up on the " M17x all powerful general information thread" there is a wealth of information in there for you.
