Mass Effect on M17

I posted it in Lounge but may someone form other laptop had it:

"Only problem I still have is Mass Effect. Everything maxed and look beautiful but I can`t play full screen. When I try game after launch minimalize itself to taskbar and it`s impossible to do something with it except killing it via task manager so i`m forced to play in window mode but still the game looks great. I`ve searched google and so, but only hint i found was to disable ME dir from real-time virus scanner but it did not help.

Also on some planets instead of textures on rocks/mountains/ground I have only black shapes.

Problem with textures I found on Catalyst 8.12 beta rc3 so I`ll try once again with 8.11 but not being able to play full screen is both 8.11 and 8.12 beta problem"

I`ll only add that my M17 config is described below and I have Vista 64 bit.

 

Sorry I can't help you, but I do want to ask have you played it on 360? I loved the game a ton, but I can't justify re-buying it for PC unless it has some new stuff... if you did play it on 360, any changes from console?

 

Id say try close ALL unnecessary processes and try again to see if that helps with the minimizing while playing. Did that happen while playing any other games ?

Hm, probably a driver problem then , did you try the 8.10, 8.11, 8.12 beta to see if any of those fix the issue ? although with most newer games 8.12 works better.

Cant really find anything in google apart from 1 case, so seems like its another software doing that, if it was the drivers would probably seen more cases of the same problem.

 

I believe you are not alone with this problem, found this on another site.

At work now, so our 'web sense' blocking a lot of sites, will try to check more later when home...

 

Heard this may help on a 64 system...

 

The PC version looks better, and can easily maintain a framerate above 30, a feat the 360 version can't dream of accomplishing.

 

have you searched for a new game patch?That might also help i dont think that its the driver.

 

I`ve disabled UAC after I turned on M17 for the first time, I tried to reinstall game, I tried both 8.11 and 8.12 beta drivers and I`ve game patched.

No changes whatsoever.

 

Scenario:

You're already playing in windowed mode. You go to the options menu and uncheck the Windowed Mode option.

What happens?

 

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. Just to confirm, please let us know if this happens with other games. Have you tried different resolutions?

What resolution are you attempting to run the game @? 1920.1200? OR lesser? And, do you have a 1920.1200 screen? There is an issue with the 8.11 and 8.12 drivers, whereas it will not scale and fit to screen any resolutions below native 1920 until you get to the 1440.1050 resolution when using mobility modder. I am currently working with KS over at DNA to resolve this. Im hoping the 8.12 final drivers will prevent this from happening, but there's no guarantees til tomorrow. In the event the drivers are still not fitting to screen, then I'm going to mod an .inf for 8.12 to enable it.

The *only* other idea that I have for your situation, is that when you enter the game just hit "alt + enter" simultaneously to go fullscreen. But, if you're having the problem I think you are, which is the centering of the game, and black borders around your screen(shrinking of desktop), then you'll have to wait til tomorrow

Man I sure hope you can get it, from what I have been reading up on this game has had major adaptability problems for many users.

Kevin_Jack2.0: I tried this scenario, screen goes black for seconds and then It comes with dektop and minimalized ME.

Armando: I tried almost every resolution, all goes ok in widnowed mode, none of them works with full screen. Tried also Civilization 4 and Call of Duty and this problem did not occured in any other game.

E-wrecked: I have screen notFullHD so i have dektop 1440x900 and I tried to play full screen with this res ando other else. No (mass )effect. I can play windowed any res, I can`t play full screen any res.

And when I try to play it full screen when game minimalizes itself dektop looks like dektop, no changes of res or anything else, just as when I push alt+tab in any other game/program.

So if you ask me there`s probably some conflict on line ATI drivers-game. I`m still looking for solution allover the internet.

 

Try different drivers, check for patch updates. Perhaps contacting EA directly, you may obtain further info. Good Luck.

 

Have we had any luck with that sith? The 8.12 modded driver I put up may solve it. You give it a shot?

 

Hope that mod works for you bro, I can't wait to try it.. I gotta get some games first though

 

No success till now, last thing I have left is to try drivers modded by E-wrecked, probably I`ll try it tonight and give you some feedback on situation.
