    Hi all,

I'm having some problems trying to play Mass Effect PC version on my M9750. At the starting screen with all the options I click play it shuts the game down and Vista error message appears saying Mass Effect has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. There's only 1 option to choose which is ( Close Program ). I tried all the video settings etc. Nothing works. I also went to AW support and download the latest driver :

NVIDIA Graphics Driver 156.55 For Models: NVIDIA GeForce Go7950 GTX (m9750)

Non-WHQL graphics driver for Windows Vista.
Features and fixes in this driver release:
    Supports NVIDIA SLI

    File Size: 55.0 MB
    File Date: 8/23/2007
    Platform(s): Windows Vista

    Download Driver

    Here are my specs:

    M9750
    2.0 CPU
    4GB Ram
    Single 7950 GTX
    160HD
Vista 32 bit Service PK 1

Ok well what I would do first off is uninstall Mass Effect and reinstall it. Sometimes funky things can happen on installs that screw with launching a game.

If that's not it, I would just double check AW's site again to make sure you have all of the most up to date drivers for your system...

Also, it just occurred to me, have you restarted your system since your install? Sometimes I know it happens to me where it asks you to restart now and you choose "later" and then forget to and things don't work right. >.< Just a thought.

    Hope this helps! :D

Okay after browsing the EA website for help I finally found out my problem. It's the UAC in vista that needs to be turned off. I turned it off and finally get to play the game. Thanks for the replies!

Have you tried running the game as an administrator, it should still be allowed to run by the UAC but, your Pc would be secure...

    Just a thought?

It's the security program that runs with Windows Vista. When you first load Vista and try to do anything it will ask if you are sure, basically it's designed that if a Virus or malwear tries to install a program or change settings without you knowing, the UAC will ask you if it's ok to do so, stopping whatever it was working.

Some people seem to turn it off as it can be a little annoying at times, for example, if you look in the control panel, any icon with e coloured shield symbol next to it, will activate the UAC and you will be asked if you want to do whatever change it is...

It's a pain for simple things but i'd rather put up with it and know that my machine won't let a bad program run...
