I was curious what type memory alienware installs in the m15x? Is it pretty decent ram or is it junker ram that I should remove and upgrade myself?

Alienware normally uses memory from QUANTA. It isn't bad, but upgrading it through Alienware is just too expensive. I'd say buy RAM off of Newegg or something and upgrade it yourself. It's one of the few things you can self-upgrade without voiding the warranty.

^_^ just to add to it.. keep your stock memory with you, just in case you need to send it back. You need to have original HW/SW instaled while sending for repairs.

My stock 1 gig config was Elpida Ram, I upgraded to Crucial myself and started having problems with my sleep state. When I informed Alienware of the issue they sent me 4gigs of Elpida as well and everything is working great now. Not sure if this is what they are sending to all Alienware M15x customers now, but I wanted to chime in. Hope it helps! :D

its called, supply, demand and lowest bidder.
your better off getting 1G (bare minimum) from them and upgrading yourself for the cost ratio.
