Having had both the Dell Orion and now the Mobile Edge 17 inch laptop bags thought I would post a little review some months later.

I am a service rep, and travel almost weekly to some place in North America and the World. So lugging my M17x R1 around along with my service paper work, and travel gear its a must.

As mentioned I had the Orion back pack but after 6 months if use it started to wear through on the bottom, and Dell would not cover this under the lifetime warranty. So onto the next pack the Edge.

The Mobile Edge is a very well built pack, as has several pockets as follows

2 side packets for things like small camera, my Ham Radio hand held etc.

2 hidden side storage pockets that are part of the main front storage pocket - these are great for cables, small headphones etc.

I storage pocket along the bottom - front of the pack. This is as wide as the pack and can hold a bunch of different items including a larger set of headphones business cards, keys, etc. inside the pocket are 2 webbed storage pockets. On the outside of this pocket are two additional webbed pockets, though things can easily be lost in these storage pouches if your not mindful of it.

    2 Main storage pockets.

Inside the first main storage area I can easily hold books, and papers, pens, and includes 2 large webbed storage pockets as well.

The second main storage pouch is the laptop pocket, and has a divided storage area where the laptop sits on the back area, and you can put the Power Brick or more books in the front area.

On the top if the pack pack is a small zippered storage area accessed from the top) that shares the second main (Laptop) storage area. I have my back up drive sitting in there,

The carrying straps are rugged, and comfortable considering I am lugging about 18 - 20 pounds of stuff, and it includes the cell phone pouch that can be mounted on either carrying strap depending if your a left or Right handed person.

There is a flap that folds over across the front of the back pack and secures with two fasteners. This seems to have been designed to provide a bit more support and protection to the whole pack pack. I often use this flap to hold my coat or sweater.

Over all I have been very happy with this pack, So far I see no wearing of the material, and IMO is a better built - material wise than the Orion was.

One of my main concerns as a frequent traveler is that the pack will fit on the airplane, and not have to be gate checked. Last time I gate checked a laptop I was getting a new screen installed. This pack easily fits in even the smallest of aircraft I have been on including the 12 passenger Turbo Props.

Price was about 90.00 Shipped. you may find it for less but getting it to Canada was more than shipping to the USA.

To the Mods if you feel this would be better suited in a more general forum feel free to move :)

Good review. I am looking to getting a new case and this is on my list. Does it have more storage room than the orion?

Targus XT is a nice alternative if you ever need more space, I fit 2 M15x and a M17x in it at the same time ...

Thank you for contributing to the forum !

The Orion holds about the same, and having had both I think this one is more comfortable on the shoulders, as well as lasting longer so far as wear and tear goes

Thank you for the review. I was about to recommend to a friend to purchase the Orion for his 17" notebooks but this review have changed my mind.
