So I bought an m15x, but I'm having second thoughts. I'm thinking about cancelling the order and waiting for Montevina to be released in June.

When new chips are released for laptops, about how long does Alienware take to implement them into new laptop designs? I'm going to assume these new chips will require a 1066MHz chipset, and probably DDR3 RAM slots.

So it would be very safe to assume they'll be coming out with a whole new laptop (maybe a m16x?). Seeing as these new chips are rumored to be released in early June at some computer expo in Taiwan or someplace in Asia, How long will Alienware take to release a new laptop? Are they pretty good about releasing them right as the chips/chipsets are released? Or can we expect them to take 2+ months to build a new laptop around the new chipset/cpu.

If we're talking more than 2 months, I think I'm just going to sit on my m15x I ordered. But I really want that 1066MHz FSB and DDR3 and maybe a GeForce 9800

    Anyone?

Also I know for sure is that Alienware has to test every new hardcore that comes out with every single possible of configuration of m15x's and m17x's. This, of course, will take some time. And usually they are released first in the United States. Which means that other places will have to wait longer to get.

The m15x is a really powerful laptop. It's really up to you whether you want to cancel or not. IMO, you should stick with it. It may take longer for Montevina than you think... :D And the m15x will most likely be able to upgrade to the 9800 as well. You will just be missing out mobile quad CPU's and DDR3 ram.

I just ordered my m17x. I talked to the sales rep. and he guaranteed me that no new laptops will be released this year. Don't talk my word for it, this is what he told me.
And btw, you will never buy a laptop if you will keep waiting for newer better components. I wanted to buy the m9700, and I just ordered the m17x. How much change do you think is between these two laptops? Got my point?

    Totally.

I'll have to agree that components are constantly getting upgraded and you can never really catch the "right time" to buy.

As for the rep saying "no new laptops will be released this year", I talked to a sales rep over their website that said, "all cpus on the m15x are completely overclockable".

I just laughed. Anything to sell a laptop, I guess.

    Thanks for the input.

Alienware has (infamously) not been known to update their platforms (i.e moving from Santa Rosa to Montevina). AW gamers are now kind of stuck in santa rosa until the next best release (Just look at the m9650 with the napa platform...)
