As the title suggests, when's dell/alienware getting off their lazy arse and updating their lineup with the montevina platform? I wanna see some m17's out there with two 9800m GTXs and a QX9300 already...

dude, she's such an anorexic, at least if you're looking in the same weight class get angie jolie... But seriously let's try to stay on topic here, I've been searching the alien network for any videos and nothing on this subject comes up. It's been 4 months already with the santa rosa, am I correct?

The performance difference between Santa Rosa and Montevina is negligible at the very best. There's no disadvantage to being on the Santa Rosa platform.

I highly doubt Alienware will move to a new platform with this generation of notebooks.

    A QX9300 and a SLI 9800GTX would cost like 2200$ from alienware...

lol qaz, try $4200, and then add in hard drive, OS, DDR3, SSD, you're looking at 5-6k for a lappy, but at the same time, its alienware... They're supposed to be there first when any new technology comes out, I mean come... on!

Obviously you've got your company wrong as AW has only been first with any new technology only a handful of times. Also, if you look at Qaz's loc its "down under" aka Australia.

I have no idea how the currency there works. I know that in the UK it is about 1700 - 1800 euros for the common "8800GTX setup. It might be the same deal in Australia but hell if I know.

    m860tu w/ Montevina, 4Gb DDR3, 9800m-gt, 2.8ghz = ~9500 3dmark06
    m15x with SR, 4Gb DDR2, 8800m-gtx, 2.5ghz = 10,000 3dmark06

so obviously, Montevina in fact isn't the giant leap forward everyone thought it would be.

whizzo, you would be running 3dmark at WXGA+ and the clevo guys would br using 1024*whatever. Thats why your scoring higher

Dang people quad core dont mean games are 4 times as fast as a single core or dual core. That a fact. Untel games run with 2 or more cores Quad core is Just crap. false avertisements. So do you want to pay more for quad core when it not needed. That your problem.

Tell the manufactures of Games to get off there Fat lazy rear end and support Quad core and have games that use quad core gaming. If they do not support the quad core then do not buy there games or quad core systems.

Why buy a quad core system if games do not support them. Unless your in CAD.

I dont really see the point of upgrading from Santa Rosa to Montevina right now, the benefits are really negligible

which would make no sense at all, seeing how WXGA+ is 1440x900, and 1440>1024, which means my score should be lower.... but it isn't :D

3dmark06 default is set to run at 1280x1024. that's more pixels and obviously a screen at 1680x1050 will run that. Onto the quadcore debate. some of us use our PCs for more than just gaming... such as running multiple apps, rendering, converting videos, adobe CS, etc... Finally. running assassin's creed (not sure if its made for multi-cores, but am asssuming it is) on 2 PCs that are VERY much the same. 1 is a core2duo 2.8ghz with 4gb ram and an 8800GT and have tested with 8800gt SLI. 2 is a core 2 quad (q6600) 2.4ghz with 4gb ram and the same vid card setup... there is a NOTICEABLE difference in smoothness with the core2quad machine. very noticeable. even cod4 seems a lot smoother. crysis still sux on high settings for both! but is marginally smoother on the core2quad.

So yes, i think quadcores are the way to go. I'm actually thinking of that new precision from dell for my next laptop that i'm going to have work purchase me.
