    Sorry for the stupid question, but there's nothing in these drivers that will kill the minidisplay port are there? Just tried one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JLRBC7S?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00, and either I got a DOA one or something is wrong with my laptop. Tried it on an asus ROG laptop and it didn't work either, so I'm guessing DOA.

    *edit*

    I didn't mean kill like the nvidia drivers, i ment it as in disable it or not be compatible with it.

    Mr. Fox, really appreciate all you do. Don't know where we poor Alienware M15x owners would be without you. Please keep up the good work!

    Dear Mr.Fox I've been using your '345.20 Desktop Drivers Mod' since a long time solving and fixing almost any throttle I had with my 880m.

    Yesterday I was mandatory/pushed to install new drivers upon 'StarWars Battlefront' so I did it with the new 358.50

    I have to say that for my initial tests, besides SW Battlefront, I'm not experiencing the power or graphic to throttles I had with other drivers besides yours.

    Maybe it's time to do a new benchmark test with this new driver? I hope my feedback turns to be useful.

    Thanks for the tip. I will try it. I am able to use 355.98 drivers with games without throttling, but they throttle 780M SLI horribly with benchmarks like 3DMark 11 and Fire Strike so I don't use them. If the 358.50 drivers don't throttle 780M SLI in benchmarks it will be a Godsend, and I will do a mod for them if that's the case. (I refuse to support the throttling garbage drivers, LOL.)

    Well, unfortunately, this driver is just about as worthless as tits on a boar with 780M SLI. 3DMark11 and Fire Strike drop to 405/400 faster than I have ever seen them before... almost instantly... running stock clocks. I cannot believe the "rocket scientists" at NVIDIA cannot reproduce this problem because I can on four different laptops with 780M SLI. And, hard to believe they have no idea what they changed in their drivers after 345.20. Amazing how that works as soon as they want you to buy something newer.

    If anyone wants to try the mod, I have attached the new INF files for 358.50. It should work fine for anything except for 780M SLI. All the same rules apply. If you have Windows 8 or newer you have to reboot with Driver Signature Enforcement disable for the installation will fail. This INF mod does not support Windows 10, and neither does Mr. Fox. ;)

    Will work for these GPUs installed in an Alienware or a Clevo...
    Code:
    NVIDIA_DEV.1198 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1199 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.119A = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.119F = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.11A0 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.11E0 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.11E1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.11E3 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1211 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1212 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.13D7 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.13D8 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M"

    I may try to modify the bloatware and come up with some files to disable and/or block telemetry on win 10 (did a fair amount of research on it the past couple days). Damage is done and I don't have another x64 copy of win 7 (put it on my P170HM I just installed a new mb in). Will suck for benchmarking the P770ZM when it gets back, though!!! But I'll have rouges and pressure film when it gets back! :)

    ***ATTENTION WINDOWS 10 USERS WITH 780M SLI THROTTLING ISSUES***

    FYI - This driver is working extremely well for me under Windows 10. I didn't even need to change anything. I installed it the same as I would for Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 using the files in the opening post without further modifications. This is the newest driver I can use with 780M SLI without severe throttling. I'm ecstatic that it works perfectly with Windows 10, because my 780M SLI throttling problem is worse on Windows 10 than it is under Windows 7 or 8. All of the Windows 10 drivers are absolutely horrid. I have zero throttling with this driver on any OS.

    FYI - I tried my 344.75 mod and it installs fine on Win10, but there is no option to enable SLI in NVIDIA Control Panel.

    Updated opening post for this thread...

    SLI works fine with 345.20. It's only 344.75 that it does not work.

    I don't know what the problem is with 344.75. I tried several things and nothing would work. NVIDIA slowly added changes to the drivers in preparation for Windows 10 and Maxwell (which may be why my 780M SLI malfunctions with newer drivers). It could be something with the driver system files themselves is too old and different that refuses to work with SLI under Windows 10. But, 344.75 may still work fine in a single GPU system, although that doesn't help us out at all.

    *** SOLVED.
    by disabling driver enforcement in windows.

    Can somebody help me?
    I just upgraded to windows 10.
    Everything works except my geforce card, which I expected to fail me again.
    I made an upgrade from 580M to 680 M about 3 years back and ever since I have had to rely on modded drivers.
    Now when upgrading to win 10 I supposed it would ahve been the same story. But now not even the modded drivers seem to work? I tried installing 352.84-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql.
    I am using M17 r3.

    Do not EVEN INSTALL WINDOWS 10 ON M17XR3 OR YOU WILL END UP WITH SCREEN DESTROYED.

    Revert to Win8/Win7 if you didn't already installed nvidia drivers.

    I'm running an Alienware 17" deployed Sept 2014. It has an nVidia GTX 860M. My current driver is 353.62, which I was able to install using your files. I'm getting a message that new drivers 358.50 is available. Every time I've tried to install drivers from nVidia the install fails and I have to fight to get my laptop back to recognizing the 860M. The only time I've ever got it to work is with the instructions and files I've got from here. Any plans on coming up with instructions/files for this latest driver (358.50)?

    BTW I'm running Windows 10. If you need more specs let me know

    Is 345.20 the latest without throttling? 358.50 has much better SLI optimization for me in certain games giving me an instant stock boost.. but overclocks are just a no go and throttle so bad

    That's right. Last of the Mahicans. I cannot even use 358.50 stock clocks without severe throttling unless I downgrade to the garbage NVIDIA stock vBIOS and I'm not doing that. It's just not worth it having to compromise like that. Time to retire the antiques. NVIDIA has ruined everything for GTX 780M SLI with their screwed up drivers. There is no reason to believe they care or will ever fix it.

    @Mr. Fox you might have done this already but, have you tried @j95 353.00 modded drivers? He has recently re-modded it... it works with Premas vbios for the 980M sli and it has all the lasted profiles... maybe it will work with the 780m?

    As a matter of fact, I just tried it a day or so ago, right after I saw @j95 updated it. It installs OK, but for some reasons my GPUs both have a bang on them in Device Manager (this device cannot start and has been disabled) with his modded driver installed. I tried W7 and W10 and get the same issue with both OSes.

    Guys, i have M18X R1 with 780m SLI, stock vbios, no OC, win 7, 355.82 drivers, and now i experience random FPS drop in Witcher 3, game runs 60 fps and then goes down without any clear reason to 25-30 and then go back. Hwinfo doesn't show any temp problems, 74 C at maximum... Maybe it's throttling problem that Mr. Fox described, but i thought it occurs only on 780m that was overclocked ? or it applies to stocked cards too ?

    Yeah, NVIDIA really messed it up bad. It does it stock now, too... not just overclocked. You need to use 345.20 or 344.75 drivers, or older, or your beast is going to run like crap with 780M SLI. The newer the driver the worse it throttles. A real shame, and it's shameless incompetence and their lack of regard for customers that is driving it. You may as well just sell that machine while still has some value, because I seriously doubt NVIDIA is ever going to fix this carefully orchestrated issue. Having 780M SLI run correctly is a huge problem for them. You see, 780M SLI is just as powerful as one of their special new 200W GTX 980 desktop GPUs on MXM and on par with a desktop running a single 980. Obviously, it makes them look bad for a 2+ year old laptop SLI setup to perform on the same level as their shiny new enthusiast stuff. The only way they can fix that problem is by poisoning 780M SLI with driver cancer. This was not an accident, and it's not an accident that they pretend to not know the cause or how to fix it.

    Then I don't know but as Mr. Fox said nvidia is favouring 880M and 980M now. 780M gets throttled and crippled with every release.

    That doesn't necessarily mean anything. Your CPU can throttle when cold if you don't have the correct power settings. Happens all the time. Haswell, especially, is notorious for this using stock garbage BIOS settings. They never run well unless you tweak with XTU or in the BIOS. Sandy and Ivy can power throttle as well, and so can Skylake. Run wPrime 1024M and watch your clock speeds with CPU-Z. If you see any clock speed drops at all under sustained load and the temps are under 90C you are power throttling. Try increasing the long and short duration power limits to 125.

    Is there an updated file mod that will work on a windows 10 machine? I tried the 345.20 mod as you outlined starting this thread but it wont work on my machine since it's windows 10.

    • "Extract the contents of the zip to the Display.Driver folder, overwrite existing files-" is that in the nvidia folder?

    See above responses.

    Question: What do you show in Device Manager for your display adapter?

    With Windows 8.1 and newer OS simply saying "yes" to unsigned drivers after running Setup.exe is not enough. You have to boot with DSE (Driver Signature Enforcement) disabled. Are you doing that, as shown on the screen below?
    You access by pressing F8 after POST/before Windows logon, same as Windows 7. You have to enable this with Windows 8 and newer. Use the code below in a command prompt with admin rights to activate the Legacy Boot Option menu.
    Code:
    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

    Cheers for reply i booted with signature disabled but it didnt work, in my device manager it just says "Basic Display Adapter" for both my 7970m and 970m could this be the issue?

    In my laptop my bios is locked, my Discrete graphics 1 is my amd 7970m and the 2 my 970m, would this effect booting?
    in device manager it now says-

    "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

    The driver trying to start is not the same as the driver for the POSTed display adapter."

    Ah man... take that 7970M out, set it aside, and move the 970M to the primary slot. That's probably what is causing the problem. You need one GPU in the primary slot, or a matching GPU in the secondary slot if you want SLI. You might be able to get away with a mish-mash like that on a desktop, but not a laptop. The NVIDIA driver is going to look at what is in the primary slot, and it won't find a 970M there so it will fail with a device not found message.

    Hey, if your GPU for some reason drops utilization and therefore the FPS go down, you have the exact same problem as me. The only way to fix it is to roll back to 347.88 at least... or try Mr. Fox's driver, I'm checking it today.

    It is going to say that until you install the driver. Try installing the driver again with only the 970M in the primary slot, with DSE disabled at boot. Before starting, look in the BIOS and see if the main screen shows NVIDIA or Intel. If it should NVIDIA the driver should install fine. If it says Intel IGFX or something like that and no NVIDIA, you need to switch to discrete graphics.

    If you are sure that you replaced the original INF files with those in my zip file, in exactly the same location as the original files, then I don't know what the problem is. At least your hardware issue is resolved now. Maybe check out one of @j95 driver mods instead.

    Well, I notice that the physics score is as horrible as the graphics score. That 4900MQ should be MUCH higher. That is like 2760QM performance from the CPU. Are you running on battery?

    What CPU power and voltage settings are you using? With Haswell, stock values are messed up and everything needs to be set manually with XTU, ThrottleStop or in the BIOS (if you have access to the right things in the BIOS).

    Would these files work for latest update installation? Thank you!

    No, unfortunately. Newer drivers are no good for 780M. Use this or 345.20 mod. Or, just install new drivers and if you don't have throttling, use them. If you do have throttling, export the game profiles you want from the newer drivers using NVIDIA Inspector, go back to one of these mods and import the profiles. NVIDIA has basically abandoned driver support GTX 780M owners because everything they have released after 345.20 in February has been garbage for 780M.

    Hi @Mr. Fox -
    I'm not aware if you have been already asked this before but, do you plan to mod the 361.43 drivers?

    Another question would be, do you have an idea why my 680M throttles utilisation as soon as it hits 76°C (only with drivers after 347.88) and how I can prevent it? I tried using your modded drivers, which don't have this issue as they're based on the even older 345.52 driver, and therefore lack all the optimisations for recent games...

    I don't know if it helps but I guess every driver after 347.88 was WDDM2.0 as 347.88 was pre-windows 10.

    Edit: After reading the post above, can I export the witcher 3 optimisations from 35X drivers to the 34X drivers with nvinspector? Then I would revert to your drivers and would just love to know how I can fix the clocks being stuck at 3D clocks on desktop :)

    Hello @Mr. Fox
    I've recently bought GTA V on sale and so far it ran pretty smoothly on mostly ultra graphics settings. However every time I want to play GTAV Online, I've got these black stipes all over the character, which is not really good - https://i.ytimg.com/vi/D0nk4G07Ygc/maxresdefault.jpg

    Unfortunately, every single resolution to this problem tells that I need to install the latest NVidia driver, which is something I'm afraid to do after the blown up LCDs due to crappy drivers and Win10 abomination. There is a Game Ready driver for GTAV, but since I use gtx 980m for my Alienware m18x r2, I cannot install it, since it does not recognise the hardware. Are there any new nVidia drivers that are anything but crap? If not, would it be possible to somehow transfer the necessary segments of the Game Ready driver to your 345.20, which I currently use?

    Happy Holidays!

    Yes, you can export the profiles from newer drivers and import them with NVIDIA Inspector. The clocks being stuck in 3D mode could be a background process that invokes 3D mode. Even a browser being open can cause that. Sounds like your 680M problems are similar to my 780M problems. No fix I know of other than using older drivers.
    As long as you are not running EVGA Precision X, you will most likely not have to worry about the LCD problems. Try using newer drivers. If they throttle, export the profiles for GTA V and any other newer games you are playing and then go back to older drivers and import the profiles. That works a lot of the time.

    Thanks, I will try that!

    As for the 3D clocks, the clocks are stuck even after a reboot, which does not happen with 35X or 361.43 drivers. I know it depends on processes running in the background, seems like the older driver treats one of my processes as a GPU-intensive task :p
