Hello all,
I have recently ordered an Alienware m17x. The GPU configuration is for dual nVidia 280M's in an SLI configuration.
I have recently decided to upgrade my external monitor from a 20" widescreen to a 24" widescreen. However, this will leave me with a 20" monitor sitting around doing nothing. I'm hoping to be able to make use of my existing monitor as well as the new monitor externally from the laptop.
I've poked around on the web and cannot find any information regarding anyone successfully doing this. According to nVidia's website, you can have up to 4 displays if you have nVidia GPUs in an SLI configuration in addition to another GPU in the system. However, all of the examples on their site seem to refer to desktop GPUs rather than mobile GPUs.
What I'm wondering is if I can set the 280M GPUs to output to the two monitors with the integrated GPU (nVidia 9400M) running the laptop display. There are HDMI, DisplayPort, and VGA outputs on the laptop.
Does anyone have any experience with setting something like this up? If so, please let me know how you managed to do it. If you are knowledgeable on this type of thing but haven't actually seen in it action, I'd appreciate your insight as well.
Thanks in advance!

Far as I know the only way to have two additional monitors including your laptop screen is to use one of these:
