I had my m17x r2 for over a month already. But haven't done anything like drivers or bios wise. I just want to maximize my performance as much as possible.

If your BIOS is not ver. A02 - flash it, otherwise the only thing you really need to install is the latest ATI 10.3 drivers.

Is there still an issue with the install of the 10.3?? Does it make a huge performance difference?

I think most issues were caused by installing the wrong drivers or uninstalling/reinstalling the previous drivers in a wrong way.
Just download the notebook 10.3 drivers (no need to mod anything) run the installer and select the express method when prompted. No problems should arise.

The performance might not be a huge boost (some games do get a decent FPS increase), but some issues will definitely be fixed (ex. freezing when unplugging the power cord).

10.3 is still hit or miss for some, at least using the ATI installer. I even went as far as wiping my system and the Mobility 10.3 would still not install for me from the install program.

Did try installing it straight without uninstalling the stock drivers.
Remember, do as little uninstalling and reinstalling as possible.
