OK, you guys been great for this newbie in trying to decide on a notebook. Still not sure yet, but i've learned a lot.
One thing though.
There's not a lot of love for Alienware here...
There's not a lot of love for Alienware elsewhere...
The only place i found Alienware Lovers was http://www.notebookforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=54
I've also heard/read somewhere in the forums that Alienware writes their own reviews... true? where? (pls correct me if i'm wrong)
I've learned that Clevo is the maker behind Alienware, Voodoo, Sager and Hypersonics.
Here's a pic of someone's AW underside where the CLEVO sticker can be seen. http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=129016
If that is so, and basically we are buying all the same make and specs by the same company, why does Alienware have so much negative comments?
Tech Support and Customer Support may be the immediate answer but then, does it not become an issue of the specific people they got working at Florida?
Why not so much horror stories about the other makers?
We are basically buying the same machine with different covers, right? (Cayene vs Toureg)
It seems that Alienware and Voodoo are for those people who want to make a "Fashion Statement"...
Just had a image of Paris Hilton in front of a $14K Voodoo, in pink gold, trying to figure out how to turn it on...
Bleep, we are living in an age where $300 for a pair of jeans and $500 for a LV wallent and guys are walking around with "Man Purses" is normal...
maybe i too became a brand junkie...

Hello my friend, im one of those people that keeps the torch lit under AWs corporate bleep untill they fix my problem. Ill try n be topical here.
AW has made a LOT of enemies by unjust practices towards customers and this is all over internet from the college professors well writen and documented strugle to cnets horror stories.... notebookforums is like a 24/7 AW funded pep rally (all AW moderators have AWs)
it cannot be 100% prooved since identity of most posters is private and there is no way of trully telling whose who but it is widely acknowledged that AW controls media and other pushers to make their products SEEM good
AW deficiencies are most likely traced down to the quality of parts they use and their inability to properly assemble them like screws that were not fastened and came thru my screen and the whole thing overheating like crazy... other manufacturers seem to be able to make it right...
I bought my AW since I needed a laptop to see me through college CPE so i took top specs from "top brand" and got burnt badly on it -
thanks AWVeteran.
but it all comes from CLEVO, right?
in any case, it was a disappointment to see a brand, held in high regard, faced with reality, comes crashing down.
but have to admit, i find myself looking at at Voodoo and drool for a while... -
clevo and uniden, hehe i love red gold myself O
still im not willing to loose another bundle on a questionable product

Well, most of their old lineup of notebooks came from Clevo I believe, but the new ones are Uniwills, with the exception of the M7700 series.
Check the sticky at the top of the Alienware forum to see what the ODM of each Alienware notebook is. -
Kinghong1970, dont listen to this guy, I've have 5 Alienwares over the past 7 years and everything Alienware has done to make my experience wonderful has been done... i currently have an Aurora and a SENTIA... zero problems thus far...
ps- chaz is correct -
I think everyone has a right to their opinions in the public forums, whether it pleases the fanboys or not, especially by those that have been "shafted" by Alienwaste! Those of us who're potential gaming rig customers would like to find the good the bad and the ugly not just rave reviews by fanboys.
I think this is a good forum for that as notebookforums is totally run by Alienwaste fanboys and their so-called moderators and i have seen anyone not agreeing with Alienwaste product get flamed till they eventually quit the forum. Please dont let this place be run by fanboys and let people state their like/dislikes as long as it's not insulting to anyone personally! -
and just to set the records straight, im not a FANBOY, i've owned DELLS and SONYS and just so happens i own a AW right now.. my next purchase is a SAGER... the end -
I thought AWVet was an unhappy Alienwaste owner? BTW, i never called YOU a fanboy, although i have noticed some people trying to hush AWVet on other threads so please dont take it personal. All im saying is that attempting to stop people from voicing their opinions isn't going to help others.
Any company that charges a restocking fees for a product that arrives DOA should be totally avoided, thats something i think anyone would agree with, right? -

OK, here's the verdict.
I control this forum, so . . .
1. If you have an OPINION, you may state it, but don't attack others for their own. An OPINION is just that, an opinion.
2. Don't just blatantly tell people "Don't get this" - suggest it, but don't 'tell' - suggestions are more helpful.
3. No language. I will edit it out.
4. I am not defending Alienware in any way, but if you are going to make ridiculous posts [not saying anyone here has, just an example], such as "Let's kill Alienware", etc., they will be deleted, simple as that. No exceptions.
5. Finally, no personal comments/attacks.
I may seem a bit harsh, but I've had to close enough threads in this forum and moderate enough forums that I feel like a babysitter. I shouldn't have to do that. -
just to back up everything that Chaz says, this forum does not endorse nor get paid by any vendor so it's completely unbiased and open to whatever opinion you wish to state so long as it's not hateful, attacking in nature or off topic from what should be discussed in this forum.
A bit more on topic, Alienware actually reached out to us for the first time a couple of months back to offer up some notebooks to review -- so to say they do their own reviews is of course wrong, we're still working on getting an actual unit from them and I don't know why they seem to be dragging their heels at the moment but I'm sure we'll eventually see something from them. From the perspective of a site that tries to coordinate and obtain review units, Alienware could do better but they're not the worst. I've never used an AW lappie, so I can't comment on anything else regarding the company.
My LAST Alienware Thread... I Hope...
