Hi everyone, just received my M15X today and thought Ill post some thoughts about it.

    Background:

I work in IT and I love gaming. Im 24 and I mainly play games such as COD4, Crysis, AOE3 but recently, been hooked on World of Warcraft WOTLK. I mainly game on my Desktop (see sig) and I am quite technical and assembled a totally watercooled machine with custom blocks etcetc The main objective of getting this laptop was for gaming on the go and gaming at friends house etc.

Ive been lurking around these forums for quite a while now, almost a year and only reason why I joined was to know more about the M15X. At first, it seemed like the PERFECT laptop with everything I needed in a compact package. However stories of hinges, overheating etc kept me on the sideline for quite a while.

So why buy now? As soon as the skull caps were released, I just couldnt resist it anymore as it looked so darn cool and it seemed like the latest batches were much more stable than the initial ones so it gave me confidence.

What I expected and what I got:

Expectations - I knew that the laptop will be of poor quality, I heard stories of CREAKING, CRACKING, FLEX, poor quality etcetc However I was prepared to put up with some poor quality as long as I got flashiness and performance in a 15 inch formfactor.

What I got - Now I actually do have quite high standards when it comes to quality and I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. Yes the screen does make some creaking sounds but its not that annoying and actually the materials are very solid. The entire laptop does seem much more well made then I anticipated and I am extremely happy with the quality. Yes it does creak but its not half as bad as people make it out to be!

In addition, I dont know if it has anything to do with the 128GB SSD I ordered but the laptop is VERY quiet! especially on stealthmode, I didnt know if the fan was working!!!

Anyway, i know this isnt a review, but the whole point of this post is that I just want to let prospective buyers know that the laptop isnt full of HORRORs as it makes it out on these forums sometimes although I do sympathise with the people who genuinely had problems.

Seriously, the laptop is very good, its not a flimsy piece of plastic that will break soon, it just doesnt seem like that to me.

Thanks everyone for all their help and if anyone wants me to answer any questions, just drop me a line!

PS apologies for the crap photos...

Hey, Kaiserphoenix, I'm glad that you finally took the plunge. It's really not as HORRIBLE as people say it is. I'm lovin' my m15x too. :) And the skullcap looks pretty awesome.

My 15x just went into Phase 9 and Fedex sent me a message saying "your package is en route". I'm getting pretty excited, and thanks for the reassurance Kaiserphoenix.

Congratulations and I hope you won't have any problems with it!

Is the girl in your avatar a Korean actress who starred in "Marrying High School Girl" ?

I'm glad you're happy with the purchase Kaiser.

I am still very much satisfied with this laptop. Been using it for more than 4 months now and I still haven't encountered any major issues with it. I use it all day at work, battery lasts me the whole day. Then I game with it at home.

I too got scared with all the horror stories, hence why I decided to reinforce the hinges on my m15x.

Hey everyone, thanks for your comments. Yes I am very happy with everything and Blu-Ray performance has also been up to expectations. SSDs are very fast and laptop boots incredibly fast (although not as fast as my desktop which has SSDs in RAID 0) :)

Just to answer CRYSTAK's question, the girl is not from a Korean movie, she is a young up and coming Japanese actress that I personally think is very talented!

Anyway good luck with everyone who is about to receive their M15X's or those that have them already. This is a great machine!

Hey Kaieser, quick question(s): Are you in the UK..? If so, what was the time frame between order and receipt of the goods..?

    Congrats on your system :D
Out of curiosity, why did you get the BD reader and 1440x900 screen?

Hi Yoseph, I got it so that I can use my M15X as a portable BD player. For example, I can watch a Blu-Ray on a plane or in a cafe at 720P but if I go to a friends house or to my parents house who have an HDTV but without Bluray, I can just hook up my M15X and voila, you get FULL HD in a compact package :)
