Hey everyone,
Okay so my M15x arrived back home. I however am extremely far away from it (other side of the world) and won't have a hold of it for another 2 weeks. So I am going to have to do testing over the internet phone with a family member.
My goals:
Test the M15x and make sure it is working as intended
The testing or "checking" needs to be very easy and simple to perform since my other end is not very computer literate. So I have to describe in detail. Less steps the better.
If there is a problem than I can have it taken care of while I am still out of town. So please any advice would be great.
Thanks everyone!!!

Turn on, check for dead pixels, play a song, run 3Dmark06, check your temperatures via HWMonitor, listen for funky noises, check build quality.
That covers the basics. -
i have never ran 3Dmarks06. How do I do that?

When did you order your M15x and how long did it take them to build and ship? Just ordered mine yesterday and can't wait to get my hands on it.
-
I ordered mine on Nov 17 and got it Dec 3. I live in Canada though.
-
Hopefully I will receive soon. -

wow that pretty quick, did they expedite it or something. wished i had mine so i can test out this throttling issue i have been hearing about. anyone esle with M15x willing to test out jokers throttle problems?

No it wasn't on expedite. They were just very fast or I ordered at the right time. Anyways I'd follow the questions with throttle on that forum. I am very confident that AW/Dell will fix it. If it is a hardware issue then I am not sure what happens at that stage, but we will find out. Lets just hope its the power supply and have it done with. Then I can call Dell and give them hell for a new power supply.
Joker gets his PSU tomorrow and we expect his reports in at 5pm. -
wow what a coincidence, that's pretty much the same case with me, My m15x arrived today, but i'll only be able to get my hands on it in 2 weeks, ..and I'm extremely far away from it, at the other side of the world as well, guess i'll borrow the same advices you get in this thread

Hey OP, why don't you just use a remote desktop program such as LogMeIn? Just get them to install it, setting it up is very straightforward and this way you can do all the testing yourself.
-
I was under the impression that LogmeIn was a paid service and around $70 some odd to install per remote computer. If it's free then yeah I should use it! I used it at work and installed the service but we paid a lot of $$$ for a series of installs.
***edit - they have a free trial. Looks like I will be using my lappy remotely to do the testing on it. Very clever suggestion Airplaineman.
@dmightyone - that is extremely coincidental!!! I take it you study abroad and have xmas break so you are going home? -
I would use Furmark to stress the gpu and monitor the temps.

exactly!

I had two laptop from Alienware and they both had overheating Issues.
The Alienware m5550 ran up to 100c and shut off then when you restarted the fan would kickon. This would happen looking at the web then 15 mins later it shuts off.
My last laptop Alienware m17x. Would run up to 110c and shut one gpu down. Change to alienware drivers it ran up to 105c in Optimal setting. In Crysis it ran at 100c. Lord of the rings ran at 103c. searching the web Temps was 76c. Always the gpu under the keyboard.
Furmark will give a good stress test and tell you what your gpu temps are and you can Question Alienware about the temps if they seem to high.
Not sure what the M15x temps should be. Due to the fact it is a new Card and new laptop.
My M15x arrived...need advice
