My M17 should be arriving late next week (now on Phase 5).
    Single HD 3870
    T9400
    2Gb RAM
    Vista 32 Ultimate

I have read in a few posts about the need to make an image of the system before installing anything. I did not order the respawn disk.
Could you guys give a list of other things that might be of benefit and
would you install anti virus before making the image?

Image it before install anything is your safest bet.
Any program that you install have a chance to screw up your system. Image it first as a pure backup, then you can find your best setup and image again. Then you always have 1 pure backup that you can count on.

I have one, its called format :p

Usually because after 1-2 months if you restore the image you still need to uninstall and reinstall the newest drivers. I find format easier :D

I'm not a gamer. It's enough for my use I think. I can always upgrade later, and from what I hear, maybe I will have more choices for video cards.

What motivated you to buy AW if your not a gamer?

I ask also because more and more programs not gaming related are using the graphics cards in more general applications.

Either way enjoy and do not let the AW PHASE game drive you nuts! :)

imo they should cut it down to 4 phases ;)

If I'm honest it's purely the cool factor. Once I saw it, I had to have it.
Tried deperately to order the base spec, but just couldn't resist ticking a few more boxes on the customise pages, so i ended up with a better CPU.

I like to prepare properly for new additions coming to the house, hence my original post.
I will be ditching my current desktop and have already invested in a N Router and a Synology DS207+ NAS, in readiness for the new arrival.
It's also very difficult to resist the "Phase Game", especially when i am sitting at home (back to work on Monday).

lol, I was the same way with the Phases with both my systems!!
No matter how much I tried not to pay attention to it I found myself poundering what has gone wrong during each one as I hit the Refresh looking for a new updated Phase.

Buying the ram from AW is as smart as ask a car dealer to tint your car. :)
