I just got my new M17x. I purchased it from MicroCenter. It has the Q9000 quar, 4gb mem, dual 260 cards, bluray player, HiDef screen, 500gb HDD. $2300 Can't beat it. I love this thing. Saved over $400 from AW web site.
My questions are this: What should I do now in regards to overclocking? What would you do? I want this baby to last, but I want it to be a bit faster all around too. So far I have just loaded productivity software, no games yet, but that will come. Are there any files, or software that I would need to augment an overclock? What about the graphics cards? Thanks for any advice

You should probably do a search
-
Yes there's a whole thread dedicated to OC'ing the q9000.
-
And oc'ing in general
-
Yeah this tread helped me out a bunch. If I can overclock so can you.

Why overclock if your current hardware will handle things at max?
I think some people find out that they can finally overclock and feel that they need to. -
because we can

But do you really need too?
-
Not always, no.
If the capability is there, why not? -
For benchmarking yes!

You have the same processor as me and I can tell you that before I overclocked my computer crysis would lag a little in big firefights. Now it runs perfectly seemless. Not to mention my computer runs smoother and faster as a whole with very slight temperature increases

What are you overclocking (parts and rates you're overclocking at).
I might as well try it.
*goes off to search for one of Moo's threads* -
Overclock it till it burn to the ground and them overclock more
-
there's no more need for overclocking than there is a need for a gaming computer.
it's something you want or don't.
with overclocking you can get a better processor for basically free. a lot of cpu's are made with the same die and sometimes higher performing dies will trickle down to the lower clocked dies to accommodate demand. so you essentially get a downclocked higher rated processor that overclocks easily.

overclocking/benchmarking is fun.
-
Then once you get your high benchmark score, put it back to stock to game like everyone else on here does

All that I've done this far is just my cpu haven't decided for sure if I want to do gpu as well. Anyways go through BIOS unlink your FSB and Memory set both to 1250 test for an hour using OCCT then increase each by 10 then test again. Keep doing this until its unstable then back it down to last stable configuration. Also use HWMoniter to keep an eye on your temps. CPU cores shouldn't get above 80c. I would say 80c for your gpu's as well. Let me know if you need more detail than this I'll walk you through it.

What settings do you put in OCCT?
-
Settings? I do a Normal test at 1 hour the settings at the bottom of the screen are just for monitoring, can't change anything at the bottom. Oh and the hyperthreading box unclicked.
My New M17X What should I do
