it is the same screen that you have on your r1.
-
why the heck has he put that in then? i payed for upgrade on R1 and they dont even sell that screen now! ill have to phone back
-
well i just phoned back got the LED upgrade, and a checky upgrade from 4 gig ddr3 to 6 gig
also is there any way to tell once the system has arrived they've not tried to bump me and just put in the CCFL? how will i know if its the LED?
anyone know how to check my current screen so i know its a LED when i get it? like software for example? -
hwinfo 32 monitor number K1NFP€170CT
-
thanks again -
also there trying to charge me £98 for the LED? should they do this? i paid extra for the 1920 ccfl but they no longer sell that on the site? shouldnt it be upgraded to the equivelant top version?
-
Just so you know...what video cards are they giving you?
They should be giving you either crossfire 4870s or crossfire 5870s.
A single 5870 will NOT perform as well as SLi 280Ms. In fact, it'll perform significantly worse in many cases. -
cross fire 5870=) i made them change that they were planning to give me 2x 4870s! was glad about that! but can they actually charge me for the screen to get the led one? -

When a replacement is granted we are the consumers are sadly only entitled to a machine with the same specs or if that machine is not in production anymore a machine with specs that you and the retailer can agree on. The argument Dell can use here is that your first purchase was bought with this screen and if you wish a better screen then they will consider it an upgrade and charge you for it. However, it does not hurt to ask for an upgrade free of charge but bear in mind that we the consumers are not entitled to a free upgrade as the law states a replacement of the same specs or better(wich means that a firm often will try to offer you a machine of the same specs). If a common agreement cannot be reach then you can of course request a refund instead
Edit: Great news! Gratz! -
-
Take the 5870s and run. They really only had to give you the 4870s.

Well that's my order in processing phase! I paid £90 for the LED screen upgrade and plan to order a 4gig stick tomorrow!so can I just take out 1 of my 2gig sticks and replace with a 4 gig to make it 6?
-
Yep. You won't be running dual-channel, but most people don't seem to care. I always run matching DIMMs. It's not supposed to have to be matching DIMMs from a technical standpoint, but I've never seen it enabled without doing so.
-
on alienware site it recommends 6 gig (2 + 4) in the options tho o? -
Dual-channel architecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's usually only about a 5% difference in throughput, if even that. -
do u think it's worth me getting 6 or just keep my 4 gig dual channel? -
It's not 5% of available RAM, it's 5% of the RAM's throughput (i.e. 5% faster/slower). Per the dual-channel specification, it's not required for them to be of the same size, but like I said, I've never seen dual-channel go active without identical DIMMs. You could prove me wrong.
With regard to 4GB vs. 6GB, that's completely up to what you'll be doing. If you have 6GB in your current machine, see if you're using over 4GB of physical RAM with as much open as you'd normally have open and doing. If you are, get the 6GB, otherwise stick with 4GB because you're wasting money. If you don't mind having the system in hand first, do the same test with the 4GB.
I run 8GB myself and have gone over 6GB usage. I run multiple copies of some games simultaneously, though, which not many people do, and sometimes have Photoshop open at the same time. The games alone use ~1.5GB each, and Photoshop will use whatever you decide to toss at it. Given free roam, Windows 7 x64 likes to sit at 1.5GB-1.75GB at idle because of its love to pre-cache commonly used programs. It only caches based on available memory, though, so it never oversteps its bounds. -
I do not believe it is possible for Dual Channel operation with out 2 x the same DIMM
-
So overall I won't lose much uping to 6gig as 4 struggles when I up the polly count in mudbox!
-
More RAM won't hurt it haha.
My R2 replacement specs! can some check one thing?
