TO ALL READERS, I AM A VERY VERY HEAVY USER ON MY M17X IN TERMS OF TREATMENT.
DO NOT EXPECT RESULTS TO BE LIKE THIS UNLESS YOU ARE LIKE ME.
PLEASE rep if you like the pics =)
But good thing my red baby is still looking awesome! =)

This is what happens when you put the M17x into your backpack without any protection. I own a cheap regular Jansport backpack FYI.

The sides will begin to chip paint because it's so sharp it would rather pierce through my backpack but it cant.
I cant wait until the entire black paint comes off because the chrome underneath looks awesome!
I wonder if Silver users will notice any difference if their colors begin wearing off.

    Gives it character!

Noting a little black nail polish wont fix.

i was worried abou the same exact thing, so i broke down and got a nice laptop case since this thing is Fing expensive lol.

    This is the backpack
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...&ck=bn&~bk=gr:CategoryRec,g:RecentPopular,rk:

Has plenty of room, the funney thing is where the laptop is supposed to go. It dosn't fit at all! I have to put it in the compartment behind the padding still works well though.

P.S. wow freky 3 ppl replaying all at the same time LOL

despite what ever backpack you have, id say be very careful about putting your M17x into a backpack. The reason being is that the M17x has VERY sharp edged and it would rather pierce the fabric material of your backpack, but since it can't the backpack would always win and give your M17x some sort of blemish.

bottom line, be very careful about putting your M17x into any backpack, unless the material inside is made of some sort of microfibre!

Thats true better then a regular backpack thats for sure already learned that the hard way with another laptop lol. I need to get better about using the Alienware um Glove/Sleave or cover whever you want to call it, that came with it.

accidental damage covers normal wear and tear?

I mean it doesn't effect performance in any way.

    acidental damage covers it all
even if there is just a oily indent on the pamlrest from your hand or its buffed from ebing there all the time
or if your dog paws at the lid and scratche sit
if your fingers rub the letters of the keyboard
it will cover it you dodnt evne have to tell them what happens just say whats wrong and they will fix it

i have fingers nails that i hate to cut and the way i hit the space key and my thumper nail chips away at the paint
evyer 2 months they ahve been repalcing the keyboard on my M1530 also i ahve had the palmrest on this repalced like 5 times because its go thtat brushed iluminum or what eve rit is and it rubs and wears out fast
and if my system don't look perfect i dont want it i payed good money so i get the warranty and use it

after about 7 times of them fixing or repalcing parts in a 12 month period they usualy just sned out a new system

thats the one reason why the only color i would buy is the silver. no paint. its just the raw aluminum and it will not do this. ive seen a number of these now in my shop for upgrades and most have this same type of wear on them.

Yeah, I really loved the Red M17x I had.

If I were to do it over again, I'd prolly go with silver though.

I dont think they look bad. Like when my knives and guns get scratched I just think it makes them look cooler.. Almost like Battle Proven or something.. IDK

    I am the exact opposite.

When my HK USP got scratched I was pissed! Although, it wasn't a carry piece and I was trying to baby it.
