One week into ownership and I'm getting a little worried! Playing neverwinter nights 2 today for a few hours been playing on this thing like crazy this week anyway after saving the game (thankfully) the system crashed and restarted itself (after briefly displaying a blue screen with info) said my GPU had had a failure. I'm using it right now though (but not gaming)

this might cheer you up... -
Is the 8600M GT GDDR3 effected?
-
i don't think so, GDDR3 isn't exactly previous-gen...
-
Check your temps using HWmonitor while gaming, sounds like it might've overheated. I've done that [only] once after 3 hours of gaming, and it works fine still.
-
yeah it was probably heat. I'd played a few hours straight. Didn't fail till I saved and tried to exit the game though.
-
after nvidia saying "old"... i really don't think the 8800m GTX is effected... ohh hang on 8700GT.. hummm maybe.. i don't know
-
Sorry to hear that. I hope you can sort it out. Don't panic... Maybe it has no direct correlation with heat.
Do as suggested and use Rivatuner to monitor your temps (as well as HWmonitor to keep track of all of the max, min and current temperatures of your laptop's components).
Good luck,
M. -
when you exit the game and the game closes you get the blue screen right? if you got a blue screen in the middle of playing then it could be the graphics card but if you got it when you just exited the game, it could be the game. like the game grid alot of people have been having BSODs after the 1.1 patch update. it could be the games fault.

It is interesting to see people having similar problems, albeit with different games.
I was playing EVE online and pressed the windows key (by mistake) and thats when my rig completely froze and died. I am waiting to hear if it was a GFX problem or something else.

This sounds like a game issue, or OS related t1ct2c.

ALWAYS monitor your laptops temperatures.
You should also make regular health check ups... It's much better than going to the doctor when you get sick. Laptops are just like that...
Monitor your temperatures and you might be able to foresee what is going to happen down the road. -
I had a similar problem on my desktop, sometimes when the screen would change resolution, or if I alt-tabbed out of a game I would get a blue screen, I changed the video card drivers and didn't have any problems since. My desktop has a 8800gtx too, but I know that the desktop and laptop cards are different.
-
As said before it is probably a heating problem! Well in my eyes i would see it that way
-
For one thing, he has an 8700m which creates less heat then the 8800gtx and the GPU will downclock itself to prevent damage from heat (supposed to anyway). Though it is possible his gpu is defective.
It's more likely a driver/game issue. Otaku, can you tell us what drivers you are/were using when this happened?
Is NWN2 the only game you have been playing and is this the first time it has bluescreened on you?
Have any other games bluescreened and given you the same error?
What happens when you try to play a game after the bsod? -
The systems been fine since this first occured. I've played other games (crysis, witcher) all of them are fine.
My graphics card had a failure today!
