Okay, so my current heft of a laptop comes in at

    17" Monitor
    15.5" x 11.3" x 1.6" (Width x Depth x Height)
    8.1 lbs

    The M15X is:

    15" monitor
    Height: 48.70mm (1.92 inches)
    Width: 377.93mm (14.88 inches)
    Depth: 308.51mm (12.15 inches)
    Weight: 4.08kg* (9lbs)

My question is, if I have no problem using my current laptop as a portable machine, will I be fine with the slight extra heft in the M15x? Thoughts from owners?

your 17" is pretty much the size and weight of M15x, so you should be fine.
