Anyone else encountered this super fun "error" Seems to be a vista problem. I probably should of posted this somewhere else but want to know if any other m15x users experienced the same thing.

JIC error looks like this "Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered - nvlddmkm nVidia Driver"

As far as the Updated drivers for the 8800m GTX go they better be coming fast.

Since i didnt go into detail. Maybe i should add some, This error only happens when im gaming.... Funny as this notebook is made for gaming.
Games i play where error shows up.

    1. Hellgate london Hard to say when it happens its very erratic Sometimes it happens after just 10 mins of gameplay sometimes 3hrs worth of gameplay or somtimes none at all. What will happen is the game freezes goes to a black screen. I can still hear the game going on in the background i hit ctrl+alt+del and im at the main desktop screen i see the little triangular sign with a "!" in it and it shows the infamous error.

    2. Played hrs upon hrs of Crysis and havent experienced the problem. Hoping the problem doesn't happen. "Knock on wood"

I guess you can say this "gaming notebook" is finicky with games it wants to play.

I have read a lot of sites that say this is a common problem between nvidia and vista, however it just doesn't stop at graphics drivers it also goes to the built in integrated graphics by intel, not only that it also can go as deep as what kind of ram you are running as well. I noticed this problem even before i installed my 4GB of ram on my own. I thought nothing of it, and thought it was just a one time error. To bad its the latter of the situation. Going to give AW a call and see what they say.

from what i see Mr Guigz doesnt have a m15x but a m9750 he ran into the same problem. As for most of the owners who have a m15x i believe its worth noting what game you played and when did the problem occur. Also if you are running it under Directx10 or Directx9 This seems to make the difference on Hellgate london played for 4hrs straight np (so far) "knock on wood"

First thing i did is change the Properties of the game and run it in compatibility mode. for windows XP SP2. Then i disabled visual themes.

Then i went into control panel and clicked on turn windows features on or off. Turned off "tablet PC option components" (this part was instructed via Hellgate london support guide)

Last thing i did was change the settings in game to run it in directx9.
Seems to work for now. "Knock on wood again"...

Seriously though this kind of info is important as it isnt even covered by the m15x FAQ.

Why do you have to run in compatibility mode? What does this do for you?

Most of my games on Vista (Halo, Fear, Doom) I just run normally and they work just fine.

    It`s driver related.
Since you`re using an 8th series GPU , the 169.xx drivers would be more suited, since the 17.xx drivers are more for the 9th series gpus.

Its an old Vista "trick" when games didnt really run to well on vista and crashed out far to often, i also see you say MOST of your games not all, Do you have problems running ALL your games on vista? If you do this little trick will help it work.

I wish this was really true however it's Situational. So far mine seems to be a driver problem, but others who have had this problem updated thier drivers tried numerous other versions and got no end result of getting rid of the problem. People then say its a faulty system or a faulty card or whatever the cause maybe. Heck couple of people changed out thier RAM and the problem went away.

Thanks for your input about the drivers unfortunately using any other drivers aside from the one made for the m15x render the 8800m GTX useless making it always run at half its speed.

Then try the 167.44 drivers as people with 88M GTX reported good feedback.

    Thanks for the trick. :)
I run all of my games on Vista without this trick. I have Halo 2, Halo, Doom, Fear, Splinter Cell, Age of Empires 1,2,3, Cod4...But, I'll try it and see how this works. I have never gotten this error message while using stock AW drivers. except the time from using a driver from laptopvideo2go without installing it correctly, but reinstalling the driver the right way helped.

Hey dhoang417 some people seem to get the same problem with COD4 if you do a google search with "Call of duty 4 display driver has stopped responding" in the search box, you will be surprised of what you see.
I keep holding out on giving AW a call, because i think i can fix it myself ha! So far it hasnt given me the error yet. On hellgate london, but only time will tell...Maybe i should just call them up.

Could maybe the reason be that you are using an 8-series card, and I'm using an old geforce go 7600? I really think it's a driver issue though.

Don't call them until you have a problem, because from my past experience they are just going to tell you that there's nothing to fix until something goes bonkers. lol

By the way, my m5550 is also in the repair center right now, because of stuttering problems and overheating as well (really sucks), so I'll try the vista trick out once I get it back.

Yeah i narrowed it down being a Driver issue, and if worst comes to worse there is always respawn "knocking on wood"
