Purchased in September, it has maybe 100 hours worth of gaming done on it. Was doing some stuff in City of Heroes when it just shutdown. Straight to black screen. No lag, no graphic artifacts. Went from perfectly playable to off in a second. It now no longer boots up.

Seems like I should get more then 100 hours outta the thing before it starts frying on me.

Anyways, suppose I get to see what customer support is like now. Should be filled with fun and excitement.

Start with Roswell. Going with the normal technical support guys will be bound to give you headaches.

I had this problem before when i was playing TF2. Try taking the 8800, 8700, or 8600 out of the system. There is a guide posted on the alienware website how. Then try to turn it on. If it does it means your gfx card is fried. THe comp will still turn on because if there is no dedicated card detected it will just go to integrated.

or, to save yourself some trouble, start up the computer by pressing the right mouse button. this will launch the system on integrated graphics :)

Roswell is the "superior" tech support that AW only offers to people who know about it or select customers of their choosing. They are open from 9-5pm EST and have a lot more clearance vs. the regular tech support and are a lot more knowledgeable.

I think what they mean is booting up the comp while pressing the right mouse button...

no, what i mean is pressing the right mouse button while the computer is off. this will boot up the computer with the IGP. you do not need to press anything except the right mouse button. try it out yourself if you don't believe me.

touchpad only, probably, since the cordless mouse won't be powered/won't have reception when the notebook is off.

Even a corded mouse won't boot mine. What's the setting that makes this work?

Use the touchpad buttons. A corded or cordless mouse will most likely not work

It does work. But, it also launched windows media center for some reason.

yeah, because the right mouse key acts as a sort of hot key to launch the media center. if you press the right mouse key will the lappy is off, it'll boot the machine and then open MC. you can stop MC from opening like this with a simple regedit.

my system did this (don't recall how many hours of gaming I did but 20+ and then regular use all the time) it was a few months old. I called roswell it still took like an entire day on the phone before they finally let me send it in turned out to be the mobo which they replaced among other things I believe. Been fine since but hasn't seen much gaming.
