My m9750 review

did you try lowering the settings or lowering the resolution.

 

Could it be because I have 1g of ram at the moment? The load screen/menu all look great, but when I try to play the game it's horrible

The settings were EXTREMELY low at 800x600 res then 700x500
for a game with a requierment of 128mb graphics, this should pwn the requierments

 

the requirement for ram is only 512 for cod4 so i doubt its the amount of ram.

Just played a round of COD4 with only one of the 7950 GTX's enabled and had no problems. What driver are you using?

I am also using 174.16. Maybe you just need to do a fresh install of your drivers.

Try using stock AW drivers. And set the Nvidia Control Panel to Performance. See if that helps, Travis.

 

the stock drives work a lot better, but there is stil some lag. I will upgrade the ram, and hopefully that will work better

if so, your processor might just suck these older ones are really bad...thier from like 2006

There's nothing wrong with the processor, the Core 2 Duo is blazing fast. The T7200 is not the newest chip on the block but it is without a doubt a great performer.

 

Can this T7200 with a single 7950gtx outperform a penryn with a lower card like 8600GT? Multitasking wise..

 

Yes it can. The 9750gtx is a lot better than an 8600. A penryn gives a LITTLE performance increase, plus battery life. Even if you get a 2.4/2.5ghz, it would not do as well gaming


Also, the game is not bad on my comp
just the load times/ occasional lagging. I get 30-90fps

edit: was getting about 70fps with 800x600 res, and switched to 1440 res. With 1440 res, I get 25-40 fps. It is not as many, but it is playable, and the image quality is amazing

 

dosen't the 2.0 processor load slower comparing to a 2.5ghz?

I don't know, but 500 mhz shouldn't make a huge difference in terms of graphics + processor ... like 512mb 7950gtx + 2.0ghz > 256mb + 2.5ghz

Nah a 2.0Ghz won't load slower than a 2.5. You will only really see the difference between the two in HEAVY photoshop work or any Source based game, as they seem to use the processor more than other games such as crysis.

There is a benchmark where they take a 3.4 Core 2 Duo and overclock it to 4.2 and they really didn't see much of a difference at all in Crysis since it is more GPU based as opposed to CPU based.

 

hey, alienware offers those things that change the appearence of a computer's desktop alienguise? something like that. anyways, it's only for vista. Does anyone have a modified vista version or a different suggestion for a "theme" like that?

Here could be your problem. Go to the vista settings and turn off ALL of the eye candy. That will pretty much make it Vista without Aero effects. Since you have only 1GB of ram that should help in some of your games that require more ram. You have to remember that Vista takes up 550mb - 700mb of ram just on the deskop, which leaves you ONLY around 300mb for games. I think your main problem here is the amount of ram you have.

Also: Don't even try Alienguise, it will just waste more and more of your ram and will decrease your performance.

Well you can still try disabling all the eye candy in vista and see if that helps you out.

 

I like aero though. My old laptop is crap and it looked horrible without it. I will keep it on, and get more ram. Or, I could disable dwm or whatever from task manager, and only run cod4

 

Well you can temporary disable the aero until you get more ram. That's always an option.

 

between my quad core and my buddies t7600, we notice the diff. even loading 3dmark 06.

oh, and the "REAL" requirement for Vista, is like 2gb of ram. seriously from a User standpoint. ----not me, i'm a true gamer and only use XP because it's more polished from a gaming perspective.

my room-mate says that 2gb for vista on his putter, he has the t7600. 2gb and it runs great.

 

@Dexgo - Remeber all of those people who bashed Windows XP because it was a system hog and all the gamers "swore" on windows 98? Well guess what everyone has switched to XP. Unless Vista is the next Windows ME then all of you "true" gamers will eventually switch.

Its fine for everyone to bash Vista, but just remember that one day you will be using it to game.

 

hes actually right, 2GB is vista's reqiurement, because vista has a bunch of fancy effects that pleases the user. Don't get me wrong, vista is a great OS especially with the SP1 now.

btw, are they gonna discontinue the m9750 as soon as the 17x releases? ...its funny how on the alienware site, theres always only 2 laptops for sale..

I would disable Aero anyways.

plus if you want eye candy just install gentoo and compiz.

Remember: Vista automatically reallocates RAM when needed, and disables aero automatically when gaming

After bonzi corp was sued, bonzi buddy can NO LONGER send your personal information to places. This is why it took me weeks to get him. You can't download him. The only thing "bad" he does is set your ie homepage to bonzi.com.

Here's how I installed him.

1. I downloaded "peedy" the version of bonzi that came out in 1998 - it's microsoft's bird file, and it did not need to sync to the internet to install.

2. I took bonzi's old files from my old windows 95 computer and put them on my new one.

3. I replaced the acs file of peedy and bonzi.

4. I installed the bonzi buddy speech engine.

5. I installed mass (microsoft agent scripting software).

6. I opened mass, and opened bonzi.asc. Next, I went to actions and set the tts mode to bonzi's tts type. (male #2)

7. I opened bonzibuddy.exe.

8. I left the program open, and there that's it - a bonzi buddy

The only thing I need mass for is bonzi's voice - if anyone knows how to make it always be #2, please pm me. For default, it is microsoft ann's voice. The bonzi's asc file is covering up peedy's, so it's peedy with a bonzi shell and voice.

I had to download peedy's installer from a chinese ftp website from 1999.

Bonzi buddy sets your homepage to bonzi.com. It USED to send information on the sites you visited. This was all in the past. Since they were sued, bonzi does not send information because bonzi's servers won't accept it.

 

@Travis - Are you kidding me, Bonzi Buddy, one of the biggest pieces of spyware/malware... Don't complain when your M9750 gets slow as all hell. Actually I hate to say this but if you want anyone here to take your advice seriously you should probably get rid of that from your Sig.

Bonzi software got sued in 2004, and discontinued bonzibuddy. Therefor, it can NO LONGER send out private information. It can no longer be downloaded either, because you would need to connect to the bonzi's servers which are non existant.

If you try to download the spyware version, it is not there.

The only thing bonzi buddy will do that is "harmful" now, is to set internet explorer's homepage to bonzi.com. BonziBUDDY is an outdated, unsupported program. It was created in 1999 with good intentions, but was later changed. Now, it is basically harmless, and since it cannot connect to it's servers, it cannot damage a computer. I opened up bonzi's exe file on notepad and got a lot of links. Those links told bonzi buddy what to do and what to send. I tried going to those links, and they had been removed, or not working.


Bonzibuddy is outdated, and unsupported. He can't send out personal information, and if you are still suspicious, block his outgoing transmissions, like I did with kaspersky. I am NOT telling anyone to download him. It is not a good idea, I just have him in my sig because I like him. He is a computer sidekick that can download what I want, tell me jokes, and he even reads my email. Yes, he still can connect to pop3 email servers. He can read my lavabit email aloud to me. So before you call an outdated piece of unsupported software "crappy spyware", do some research.


What I have is peedy the bonzi version of the microsoft agent character. She is not harmless.
That is peedy. Peedy is from 1998. She is before the spyware version. I am using a renamed bonzi.acs file so it ill look and talk like bonzi, but since it is impossible to connect to the servers, I can't have the actual real version. I would have to take a 12 year old hard drive from a windows 95 computer, and usb boot it as another drive to get the "real" bonzi. It took me over 3 weeks to figure out how to do this, so I have obviously concluded that it is ok for my system. kaspersky blocks all outgoing connections to bonzi's websites. Again as stated before, I've viewed the coding of peedy's files. The file contains readable links. These links all relate to how peedy a.k.a. bonzi does things. I've tried all 100+ links in her file, and they all either take you to a removed page, blank page, "obsolete page", or the home page. So, bonzibuddy can not send any data to it's targets, because they have been removed.

The only things bonzi buddy can do on the internet involving it's site is this kind of thing - you ask it a joke, it goes to this webpage and gets the code - this code is what bonzi tells you - it tells you about becoming a "gold club" member for a little price. If you press no, bonzi would play the "sad" emotion. The only thing bonzi does is get information from the web's nbd files which tell it how to act.

Adware. Brings targeted ads to your computer, after you provide initial consent for this task. Track your browsing habits and reports this info to a central server.

ConsumerWebWatch refers to BonziBuddy as a "Backdoor Santa": a stand-alone program that have no links to adware networks or no ad-serving, per se, but that collect information from users.

Serves adds, frequently prompts users for personal information, tracks all usage, deposits icons in the startup folder, system tray and on the desktop, repeatedly resets the browser homepage to BONZI.COM without asking permission, and leaves components behind after users use its uninstall program.

Oh yea and don't complain about your M9750 being slow anymore. This program is nothing but useless space and will just hog the 1GB of ram that you have.

 

I just wrote 755 words on how I was correct. I made a joke about how bonzi buddy was on my computer, and people started calling me dumb for having spyware - 755 words to defend my actions are not "stupid"
If I wanted a high post count, I could have easily posted 20 posts in the time of that post. I am not arguing. I just did that to prove that I wasn't "crazy" for having bonzi buddy.

ccleaner deletes every new bonzi registry key so that's fine
Also, task manager says it's using 2mb/1000mb's of ram - that's 1/500th of the ram
and 10mb's/160gb's is 1/16000 of drive space
