(Dual core 3Ghz M17x with dual 280Ms, vs a fairly well specced M1730)

+ Really is properly powerful - the performance is excellent
+ Love the cooling system, the M1730 got hot as hell running *firefox* for goodness sake.
+ Looks about a billion times better. The M1730 really was impressively ugly
+ Love the slot-loading disc drive.
+ Love the stealth mode - proper battery life on a big laptop.

    - The touch panel thing is just... really bad.
    - Slight annoyance not having a mute key on aforementioned crap touch panel
    - The Alien's head insignia is, eh, well it's kind of juvenile to be honest.
    - Slightly miss the Logitech GamePanel.
    - It's just me, but the touchpad has a really nasty feel to it... seriously, this is just me.

You...use the touchpad on a gaming laptop? For all I care, they could leave the touchpad out, even on the go I just use my mouse on top of the laptop itself. Still, it's a valid point I suppose.

You do know right that you can overclock the processor in the BIOS without voiding the warranty? Just think I'd point that out ;)

No, I don't use it! But whenever I TOUCH, even by accident, it it feels weird.

And overclocking as standard is pretty awesome.

Well, other than being a whole new machine...to the M1730.. one thing that the M1730 still has that is cool is the Quick set..to flash it's lights while playing songs...brighter screen...and much louder speakers...than the M17x...other than that M17x pretty much...owns the M1730.

There is a member that has the lights flashing but it's taking some time since he is designing it himself

The M1730 had a built in "over-clocking for dummy's". If you knew how to use your arrow keys you can OC, lol.
