I wa finally able to tap 3.3 ghz but way unstable.... better then before and other people are reporting higher OC's on qx9300s 2.93 to 3.06![]()
check out my drivers thread or pm me if you want a cutom plash screen
CODE FOR ATI CARDS ADDED AS WELL!!!!!

Won't work for M17's eh?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
no, this hints towards the laptop being able to use...dare I say it....4870's with GDDR5!
-
my QX9300 is on 3.06ghz higher wil he nog go
this with normal bios who was on m17x and where can i see what bios version on my m17x
-
Don't get your hopes up until we see the specs of the 4870s.
-
so is this a unofficial hint that you can actually upgrade the graphics card on the m17x ???
to the 4870 ???
-
The manual states Crossfire support so it's been known for awhile now. Will it be 4870s? who knows. If it is the 4870s we don't know the specs of them either. If they are the ones that came with the Asus W90 then it's definitely not an upgrade over the 280M.
-
does anyone have the actual wordings in the bios that states that ati cards are supported ???
and did they give any specific names as to which cards are supported ???
thanks
-
I'll take a look at the bios now.

No mention of ATI or Crossfire in the Bios and I searched through all the strings.
-
Is this it?
-
ah ... thanks kews ...
-
Yeah that's how the conversation got started. Crossfire support is also mention in the user manual. I opened the A01 BIOS with the Phoenix BIOS editor and didn't see anything but didn't search AMD. I'll try again.
Edit: No mention of AMD either.
-
very Interestring...Will try this when i get back from picking up my comps. If I can OC higher I shall let you all know.
-
Alright! Getting closer.
-
Very nice. Crossing fingers for GDDR5. I'm glad I didn't go balls deep with the Nvidia cards (although they could be sold if need be). Non-Asus 4870's would be a great addition, but no upgrade plans for me any time soon.
Someone post some more info on this BIOS.
Anyone updating?
-
only a few real things changed these changes have nothing to do with stability or overclocking. i have already examined this version compared to the old one. looks they made some needed changes now..
-
Anything added for Q9200 support?
-
not that i have seen. the funny thing is the m17 uses the same microcode for the qx9300 for the q9200 so i still dont see any reason it didnt work in the m17x for quad.. i wish someone else had one to try out by now.. i dont have a m17x yet im still waiting to figure out what i want to do with the display yet.. i think ill order the base one and upgrade it myself.. not sure yet
-
More then likely i just got a bum chip(9200). After using the Qx9300 i really havent had any issues , i used both 1066 and 1333 ram so the ram was also ruled out as being the culprit for bad OC on the Q9200.
-
yeah i know but yours and mine came from the same place.. so now im worried about mine
-
So just get rid of it
.

Looks like the CPU-z v.1.52.1 reports the Core VID of my Q9000 lower with the new BIOS. It used to be 1.275 before and is now 1.163. I can also get a higher overclock now and the system runs noticeably cooler still, it seems. And my 9400M seems to run 30°C cooler on average as well (I'm guessing there might have been a problem with reading out the correct temperatures before, as 30°C difference is really high).
-
Cpu-z voltage report is far away from trustworthy in notebooks...
BTW what clock did you get now? -
Right. But it's all I've got. Any program that reads M17x voltages properly for certain?
I haven't pushed it further than 2.4GHz yet (with 9400M enabled) which was very unstable with the previous BIOS. So far a couple of hours into Prime95 and no crashes yet (used to freeze the machine at 2.4GHz after a couple of minutes every time, with Hybrid mode or the 9400M enabled I I would often get a BSOD when booting). The highest Stable clockspeed I had before was 2.3GHz really.
It also doesn't appear to get as hot anymore. -
Running at 3.56Ghz with new BIOS. Up from 3.47Ghz. So far so good. 16.1K for 06 with no GPU OC'ing.
-
lol the new bios didnt change anything as far as voltage or stuff that would affect normal overclocking so i wonder what the effects overall were.. all they did was fix some compatibility issues nothing else.. and added some microcode for ati and some cpus
-
Placebo effect?
-
They probably optimized something with the chipset
-
That's true. Two changes made back to back could have had an effect.
-
i can't e ure either i already flashed last night as i couldn't resist and i OC'd a little higher but hardly enough to boast about
-
the chipset code is EXACTLY the same as before.. i have found a couple things im checking out now with a few people the mod bios' all day long.. im also asking if there is any way to be able to bump the voltage any more even though it seems to be maxxed out already. i dont think we can but i will keep looking at it for a couple more days.. these bios' are pages long lol
-
The chipset driver was updated also. I think that's why he brought it up.

Carefull when you open A01 directory, there is a A.bat file that will not give any prompts if you accidently run it. (i think i clicked to many times)
I wanted to look at the readme file and was not ready when it started updating the bios. Had to quickly turn off all the programs running at the time. Couldnt turn off the virus scanner since the keyboard wasnt responding.
It completed successfully but it reqired going into bios and then out to get it load windows. I also have to set the overclock again.
Freaking pissed at that batch file. Gave me a scare.
-
ok guys i linked it in my thread but FF woulnd't work i had to use IE
OK
SOOOOOOO isn't this thing nice
-
So I'm really all confused.
Is the GTX 280 better than the ATI 4870 GDDR5? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
no1 knows because we aint been able to test, but it should be slower than the 4870 w/ GDDR5
-
the ATI should be 20% faster ..... it has been said so many times.....GDDR5 > GDDR3 simple
-
Do you happen to know/educate guess the price range? More expensive or cheaper than 280SLI?
-
if 4870 sli comes for ati i will order it for upgrade on my m17x, and sell off my 280m sli.
NEW M17x BIOS out ( tability for higher overclock )
