No fix or acknowledgement of the accelerated video problem in Flash and WMP. Sad.
-
Installing now on 17xR1 280s. Will update in a bit.
Wow! Loving the new installer. -
I will just wait to see if other user have issues.. i am tired of getting BSOD or stuffs with 2XX.XX drivers.
-
Any verdict yet?
-
had strange CPU values in 3d mark vantage
. after installing the A03 driver from dell, values are normal again.
-
I'm pleased to report that after a day's hard playing Aion (the things I do for you guys
) at max resolution/max detail in SLI (the acid test), that I didn't have a single crash or lockup with the new drivers (usually would have 4-5 lockups/day). I also like the new installer.
Tip: When you install, use the CUSTOM option and select the option for CLEAN install which will uninstall existing drivers, re-boot then carry on installing the new drivers (& reboot). You will then probably need to enable SLI and re-boot for the 3rd time, but IMO it's worth the effort, and using the nvidia setup to achieve a clean install is a definite step forward.
My System: M17x R1 2 x 280M SLI (Hybrid Off), 8Gb RAM
I may just have to spend another day 'testing' *coff* just to make sure - but for now I think these have been the best drivers in a long time, and *seem* to have addressed the random lockup issues previously experienced.
Cheers
>>---> Trelawney -
I put them on last night and it hasn't broken anything yet. I do like that you can now prevent the PhysX and 3D drivers being installed, the latter being one I always removed manually in the past.
The installer's "Remove previous driver" option was a little lame. In my case it removed everything then requested a reboot, stating the install would continue afterwards. So far so good. However, the resumed install then paused whilst it waited for Win7 to install its own drivers for my graphics. The annoying thing being that this then wanted another reboot and the resumed nVidia installation was cancelled. I think this needs to be addressed somehow.
I also had the nVidia control panel keep crashing after I had changed from the 9400 to the dual-280m. I uninstalled nHancer, which was never working great for me anyway, and that seemed to sort that.
I'm not much into benchmarking, but I didn't noticed any performance drops when briefly trying Star Trek Online. -
Psychotic deformity Notebook Consultant
Every time I log in into session the user experience driver crashes.
I've had one system lockup after I tried switching from dedicated to integrated.
Can't say about performance for now but i hear they are poor benchmarkers. -
did someone test this driver on a M15X ? I'll be curious to see the results..
-
It makes me so happy everytime I see an update thread about the R1, as they are getting rare by the day. Can't wait to get home (2 days to go) and try these drivers out.
-
I installed this driver on my P-7805U FX last night, I like the new installation interface Nvidia came out with. I always uninstall the old drivers first, reboot then install.
-
Now Ill represent for the Area 51 guys, running the drivers in my Gen 1 M17x with 9800m Gt SLI, no issues no BSODs, for a matter of fact my system loves the 2xx.xx series of drivers. Now Gen 1 M17xs, we are the ones getting rare!
-
I will represent Apple
I tried it on my Unibody Macbook Pro 17 with GeForce 9600m, and it tells me there's no compatible hardware
I know this is the Alienware section, but maybe you guys know something about this problem. -
wow i love the splash screewn
-
Now this is a nice surprise. Installed a few hours ago, tested 1 game for an hour, enabled 'hardware acceleration' in flash again and played some youtube video's and guess what, no black screen crash yet (running on hybrid)!
Will update in cas of any change, but for now...
Thank you, Nvidia for providing us with what seems to be a stable driver!
Next up, Alienware/Dell, to please remove the erratic discrete GPU fan start/stop thing when switching from hybrid to integrated when booted with hybrid enabled. -
I reinstalled using the clean option..
At first I fired up the game I was playing at the time (mass effect 2) and was like wow it's definitely smoother! But then I remembered that I had everything set to highest except for AA. So I went and turned up all the options again (quality ambient occlusion, 16xAF, quality Highest, vsync and triple buffer) and the game still seems a little smoother than before.
I'm not sure if any of the optimisations in the newer driver should affect a GTX260M playing the unreal3 engine, but it does seem smoother. But not much if at all.. Also I'm sure the GPU usage monitor of GPUZ spent more time at the 99% mark than it does now. Before it was nearly always peaking, but now it only does in certain scenes.. (was using the 258 driver before..).
Other than that I haven't noticed any issues so far.. -
I've been running these drivers for a few days on my M17xR1 and have had only minor issues:
1) user experience driver crashed after windows started - Removed the 3d vision driver and this crash stopped.
2) removing the 3d vision driver caused the nvidia control panel to crash each attempt to load it - reinstalling the drivers over the top of the last 260.63 install (without 3d vision selected) fixed this problem.
Other than that I have not had a single crash since making those changes. Running my system with a single 260M plus Hybrid-SLI enabled and ASPM enabled and still no crashes (fingers crossed).
Finally a driver that seems stable. -
For me:
. Installed it with integrated and hybrid graphics enabled
. SLI doesn't seem to be working. Ran OCCT and only one of my cards heated up.
. nv Control Panel doesn't show aspect ratio options. So any non-standard resolution will be stretched. (a big NO for me)
. 'set sli and physx configuration' disappeared from the nv control panel left-side menu after i went from Boost Power mode -> Save -> Boost
. show SLI and PhysX indicators also don't appear in top menu (since it only appears for the sli and physx settings context)
. tried Fn + F7 (I/D GFX) but that didn't do anything
user experience driver:
I didn't install the 3d vision drivers. But I still get the 'user experience driver' crash message. nv Control Panel is ok, doesn't crash.
After restarting:
Furmark is running both cards in SLI. OCCT is not. SLI & physx visual indicators on. L4D with the indicators on showed SLI functioning. So probably an OCCT problem (v.3.1.0) -
Nothing but nvlddmkm.sys crashes over and over till the unit just freezes. Uninstalled and went back to 197.84. Seem to be the only ones that work for me. I'm gonna restore the system soon. maybe that'll help.
Is this error I'm having the "user experience driver" crash? Never heard it called that. Only heard it called nvlddmkm.sys =P -
No error so far, get lower temperature than the DELL 257.38. Smoother in StarCraft2. Installed with Custom and everthing checked. The only thing that bothers me is this error in Event Viewer:
Code:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: nvport
-
I just installed these new Nvidia drivers and their pretty cool. So far so good. I like the installation custom options.
Performance seems to have been boosted in a few of my games too. It seems to run PES 11 and FIFA 11 demos better than my R2 with ATi cards. OLE!!!
Welcome back Green Boomerang hybrid GPU switching functionality!
I have also noticed that the Green boomerang is back in full functioning working order. We can switch between hybrid graphics cards again without having to setup power profiles and change between them. So pretty good Nvidia.
Cheers. -
By now I get good performance values.
But has anyone else the same problem: after the windows login screen appears it takes now up to one minute until the desktop appears. I tried it with installation including and excluding 3D vision - same problem. Any ideas? -

I believe you need to install the 3D drivers. My Nvidia control panel crashed when I did not install the 3D driver. I reinstalled and selected to install all three options under advanced install. All works good now.
-
Perhaps you can remove them now and find it continues to work. -
So the error i'm getting is different from the User Experience Drivers. Anyone have any info on the nvlddmkm.dll issue? I hear it's a problem with a conflict between it and another running process. Haven't been able to figure that part out tho. =(
-
Seeing some people saying control panel/SLI not working after reboot. I think someone else mentioned it before in the thread, but I noticed that after first reboot, only drivers for 9400 were installed (exclamation mark next to the 260M's in device manager). NV control panel didn't work either.
An extra reboot installed the drivers for the 260's and then all was well in my case. -
When I completely wiped the old 2xx.xx drivers before this one the system only recognized one 9800m, when I performed a system restore and then installed the new drivers with out a system wipe both cards were recognized. When I go into device manager the new drivers are present on both cards.
Keep up the good work NVIDIA, you are keeping the old 9800ms working strong! -
Just had a typical nv driver crash while playing L4D2. But instead of getting back to windows and showing me the error, the comp froze. Had to power off and restart.
Will see if this happens more often. -
Borderlands - the 'nvidia recommended' setting "global" doesn't SLI (or very little), even on the 258.96 drivers. I had set it to Alternate Frame Rendering before. On the new drivers, was seeing a lot of slowdown (like when the card gets hot).
Was going to post about the crap performance, but then saw that it had gone back to global setting and only one card had heated up. HW Monitor Max temp for GPU: 108 C ! (226 F). That's for the 2nd GPU (right side); the first stayed at a gaming-regular 77 C max. (see screenshot). The fan didn't go into it's super fast mode during the game, which I normally hear while doing an OCCT test.
Isn't 108 C at the max spec temp for the GPU? Is that 110 C?
I've re-enabled AFR1. The 258.x drivers didn't perform better with the wrong SLI setting but they definitely didn't let the card go to 100 C during Borderlands.Attached Files:

Or if your still under warrenty you should definitely give dell a call and get them to change the GPU card. Or both cards or maybe even the fans. Just to be sure. The GPUs can still run and those temps but it is not recommended. Thats for sure. Others have seen even like 150 and the notebook still runs however their fans were spinning like max ultra at over 4000rpm.
Def give dell a call to replace the GPUs or fans if your still under warranty. Thats the simplest way to fix it.
Cheers. -
150 C...centigrade? ?! okay, didn't think that was possible for notebook GPUs.
My fans are definitely not running as fast as they used to. Don't know if that's driver dependent or card/age.
I haven't unscrewed/removed the fan from a laptop GPU before, though, I'm happy to tryWill call Dell anyway. I'm under warranty so it's not a problem.
-
Ah thats good you still have warrenty. Yeh just get them changed.
Cheers. -
okay, is definitely a fan issue. started up from idle after a 30 min break (switched off) and it's idling at 64 C. The other card - fan is clearly louder and idles at 44 C. Airflow underneath and at the back is much less for the 2nd card which is heating up.
Will open up tomorrow to check for the cause. -
Sounds like a fan error or maybe a blocked intake (could be a dust buildup?)
-
Definitely dust build up...in the intakes, bearings or cooler vents. But I used an air duster about 3 weeks ago when I upgraded my RAM and all was ok. I think the bearings might need some oiling. Looking at Moo's GPU repair/replacement vid, I think I can access the bearings from the sticker on top, after removing the GPU.
Will leave that for another thread. To rule out any driver issues, I've gone back to 197.31. Haven't used those in a while but I recall it performing well. Issue still remains. Will clean up and see if it gets better. If not, will call support for a relacement. -
Well guys either these recent drivers dont like the game grand chase that i'm playing or they all like crashing randomly while i'm playing it.
-
I get the random computer freeze with these, playing games or just surfing the net. I'm back on the 197s.
-
Same here. Display driver had to be recovered all day long, while playing Lineage2. Didn't try anything else since that's what I wanted to play yesterday and it kinda failed.
Back to 197 also. -
Well for those of you who want to keep using the drivers, a little trick i found out is that if you use Riva tuner to keep the clocks locked, it wont crash. It worked for all the other 2xx drivers that I've tried so should work for this one as well.
-
I have problems with Control panel.
With first install without 3d steroscopic driver, i didnt have NVCPL at all.
Then I installed it with 3DSteroscopic driver and Nvidia control panel worked.
Then I went to disable 3ds service and stoppeed it, but somehow without 3ds sevice enabled and running
it wont work. When service is running cpl looks like this
-
-
Nope haven't used any desktop drivers, the one i'm using right now is the 260.63 verde beta. As far as riva tuner, make sure you followed the guide by joker here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m15x/439546-aw-m15x-throttling-issue-investigation-stock-clocks-overclocked.html you can use Gpu-Z which i got from here to check your current clocks: techPowerUp! :: Downloads

This drivers still running perfectly for me. No game crashes (CO, BF:BC2, L4D2, TF2) and no movie lock-ups (Flash / WMP). Running in discrete mode, integrated disabled. SLi is working fine in all games.
-
I'd really like to use this Driver as well. Everything works fine except the issue that it Takes up to one minute until the desktop appears. Any ideas why?

Sooo... i'm bringing this Borderlands issue again!
I think i mentionned it for EVERY Dell beta release (related to dpc latency fix), and possibly every whql verde driver that came out if I was playing the game at the time.
260.63 are no different, fps drops, game feels sluggish overall, disabling shadows helps but doesn't do a thing about the fps drops while phasewalking or dealing elemental damage.
Come on! It's been what? A YEAR now? And still this issue exists... I just started to play the game again (DLC4 came out), and frankly I don't want to instal low 197.xx drivers just for that.
What did nvidia do to their drivers that this game is unplayable for me with the dpc latency fix?
oh and by the way, I have checked temps while playing, both cards heat up, nothing special. -
BL runs for the most part perfectly fine on my setup even with the latest beta drivers. I get the occasional hiccup but maybe just the once or twice during a hour period, which I put down to some background process somewhere screwing around.
-
Psychotic deformity Notebook Consultant
which toon do you use? Do you have a lot of effects going on or not?
For me it appears this is the source of the issue, since I play only with a Siren, phasewalking every 5 seconds and using phoenix... you can imagine. -
Installed yesterday, it does take longer to startup.
But I also noticed a significant decrease in temperatures comparing with Dell's 257.38, about 100C to 80C.
