nah I have investigated the issue with Unclewebb and what is happening is in fact the cpu throttling! I most probably would encounter the same issue with every other toon using elemental damage and other graphical effects, maybe just less often.

Now I know for certain that nvidia drivers play a part in this, but all in all it's Dell fault since the throttling isn't related to high temperatures AT ALL, it must be either the power adaptater or a bug/badly implemented function in the bios.

What is funny is that we have exactly the same config, yet I encounter the issue and you don't. May I ask if you run your 9300 overclocked?

Anyway, using the clock modulation of throttlestop makes the game playable again without having to use one year old nvidia drivers.

Interesting, as I was using Throttlestop on my work E6400 until today having now updated it to a newer BIOS which apparently fixes it (keeping an eye on it at the moment). Maybe a new BIOS for the M17x is not long behind.

Will try Throttlestop with BL myself tonight.

Looks like I am suffering with the throttling too, I just hadn't noticed it was that and assumed as it only manifested itself on the odd occasion that it was down to some other background process. It was slowing things down to almost 50%

Now with Throttlestop I can force it to run at the systems true speed all the time, though I struggled to get it to set itself up with the correct values for the maximum clock values - had to manually edit the INI files as it insisted on 7x instead of 9.5x and an incorrect value for the core VID.

Well I'm glad my issues helped someome else ^^ or... maybe you wish you never knew you had an issue lol I have to say I'm a bit relieved I'm not the only one...

The fact that the throttling is worse for me (60 to 2 fps then back up after a few seconds) might be related to my overclocking since you appear to be running at stock speeds. Do you run at stock voltages too, or do you undervolt?

I need to try 9.5x at 1.050v (currently 11x at 1,162v), see what happens.

Anyway, like I said all nvidia drivers this year made this issue appear for me so I guess throttlestop will have to do for now (until I decide I want a new machine and start harassing support lolz).

    I think mine's set to 9.5x 1.115v - I'll double check tonight.

As the E6400 BIOS that fixes the issue only came out in August (the previous one was January) I'm hoping Dell will still come out with a fix soon.

    **Update** VID = 1.150v

As I've stated in other threads, I've had wonderful results with using ThrottleStop to lower the CPU VID. The only lock-ups I'm getting now are in Civ 5 (known issue when playing small map heavily settled and swapping into Strategic Map; awaiting patch) and WoW (although I have not crashed lately since switching to DX11 mode).

Installing release version now, hopefully good news.

    The non-beta is 260.89.

The install is even better, did an in-place fresh install, didn't even require a reboot which was surprising. Only had to reboot when I changed the SLI config. Getting allot better Nvidia. And my monitor is defaulting to 60hz :)

Now to see how stable they are with Flash/WMV and games.
