Apologize if there's an existing thread out there on this but wondering if any can post their thoughts/experiences with the Nebula Red finish. Currently have a M15x with Stealth Black which I love but considering the Red finish for the next laptop. Outside of completely different colours, are there any other factors I should keep in mind? Scratching/finger prints/fading...etc

I believe you should know this if you`re considering the M14x or the M17x R3 or R4, they have a soft touch finish, different from what you were used to on the M15x.
There are a few photos out there comparing the M17x (which is similar to the M15x in terms of chassis color) to the new soft touch chassis of the M17x R3, you might want to take a look.
I may also add that i find the soft touch cassis more fingerprint friendly than the M15x in black. -
thanks for the heads up...didn't realize the black finish had changed from what i have on my m15. will check it out!

The new soft touch also seems to be different on Nebula Red and Stealth Black, my Nebula Red M14x feels like a special paint, or very well treated, slightly roughened plastic compared to the very thin-rubber feel of the Stealth Black M17x I saw in a store.
But yeah, the soft touch is different from the metallic paint you might be accustomed to on your M15x.
Here's an image of my M14x's Nebula Red:
As you can see, it is noticeably rougher instead of a smooth metallic finish. However it has an absolutely gorgeous, brilliant specularity in reaction to bright light, making it turn quite lively when struck by sunlight or other such bright lighting.
But to the hands it has a very luxurious feel that is not like rubber, but rather like high quality plastic or composite. -
I had a red M15xR2 and a red M17xR3 and I can tell you, the red on the M15xR2 was much better. It was deeper and had a more metallic look.
The soft touch is really nice, but compared to anodized aluminium its a no brainer. -
I'd say though that my M14x's current red color is more akin to crimson than to a very deep pure red, which I like more, honestly. -
I don't know why I preferred the Soft Rubber Finish compared to my M18x anodized aluminum finish :S
Also, the M17x doesn't feel that cheap at all! Heck these are better than the glossy plastics. -
I prefer the red as I like to stand out and draw attention to myself. Most current laptops are either black or aluminum and how now just the current hype or what most people prefer. If I wanted a black I would have ordered one or even a clevo to be with rest of the crowd.

so which do you think its better red nebula or d you prefer black color?

From an aesthetic point of view I think the red+black combination showcases the current Alienware look much better. The lines are very similar to something that one would find on a new Mustang or Mercedes, and the red color scheme helps them to stand out more clearly. I think the design team did an exceptionally clever job of choosing, and then capturing a modern muscle car look for their gaming computers as well as integrating the classic Alienware iconic symbols.
So if I was going to use it almost entirely in my home, then red would be my choice...American muscle cars beg to be made in red.
However, I can see how if you travel quite a bit on business, yet want all that power at hand, then something less flashy but just as capable would be a better choice. Like a Mercedes, some European sports cars beg to be made in black.
That being said, I prefer that mine is black, but I will always wish it was red at times... -
Just an aside for design enthusiasts - I read a few years back that the design for the current crop of Alienware's took inspiration from the F-117 Stealth Fighter... no wonder black seems to be the natural color of choice

I admire inspired design when it effectively complements function. I own a vintage watch designed by Richard Arbib...the Hamilton Ventura. (now there was an interesting man)
That, and my M14x are half of my four favorite purchases that I immediately fell in love with at first sight. -
I have a M15x Stealth Black and M11x Stealth Black.
I prefer the M11x overall, I love the paint job (however I had to get the case replaced as the paint was peeling after a month, now this new case is peeling a little bit, but nothing I'm going to worry about)
I prefer the black as it doesn't stand out as much.
If they had a green or orange one with black interior, I'd buy it in a heartbeat! XD -
After having a black m18x R1, I recently got a nebula red. To be honest, I don't like the red: too gaudy and looks somewhat like something a 19 y/o neckbeard would have in their dorm.
AW: PLEASE BRING BACK SILVER!!!! This was my favorite m17x color by far. -
Had to go black as the red didn't do it for me. I'll probably get a wood grain decal set one of these days anyways.

I think the current generation looks far more impressive in red, whereas black isn't quite as interesting or capable of emphasizing the unique chassis design language of the current Alienware lineup. Personally, however, I would have taken the Lunar Shadow silver option in a beat were it still present. I had wanted a nebula red M11x back then, but it didn't take long for me to change my tune to the far more unique Lunar Shadow.
