Well, I've exhausted about everything I can think of and everything people have tried to help me with to fix my freezing problems (absolutely sure it's my 8800m gtx).

I'm still waiting on an email from a tech friend. I'll try the "oven trick" once I absolutely decide there's nothing else I can do.

My current budget isn't happy with $350-400 to get an upgrade (9800) from AW so I was wondering if there's anyone who has upgraded and still has their old 8800m or something else that would fit in my m15x. I'd be able to work with anyone in the US or Europe.

I'm just trying to see what kind of options I have. Thanks in advance.

You can't get the 260 or 280 for the m15x. The wattage is different and wouldn't work with the system.

He either needs to get the same card or wait for the 4870 which is supposed to be 65watts (the same as the 8800mgtx), which will also be a better graphics card.

I would say this Buy a 9800gt which is basicly the same as the 8800gtx. Having someone with issues and having them upgrade to something faster could make the problem worse and a useless computer.

If I was you check this site http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/ and mybe call alienware for new heatsink fan just to be on the safe side.

Thanks, I made a post there too. I had been viewing the forum on my mobile phone and had missed it on such a small screen. :)

Ahh, I would love to do this mod like JDELUNA but since the $350-400 for a 9800 from AW isn't kosher for my budget right now, the $490 for the GTX 280m is out of my range too. Just out of curiosity though, where would I be able to get the 260?

I'm pretty sure my fan is fine and the core never overheated when I was monitoring it. Thanks for the suggestion though, and depending on the price, yeah, it might be a good idea anyways. Where would I be able to buy a 9800gt? My prices are based on hear-say from these forums - I haven't actually contacted Alienware about how getting a new card from them would work (availability, prices, do I have to send in my old card, etc).

I also checked out the MXM site you linked, but wasn't sure exactly what you wanted me to check out from there. A new heatsink/fan maybe? They didn't seem to have any cards for sale listed that would be equal to my 8800 gtx though.
