Need Help Acquiring A Personalised Plate

Hey guys,

I bought my M15x long ago in Singapore, when they did not have the laser engraving system in place. Now that there is, I am hoping that there will be a way that I can procure one personalised nameplate for my M15x.

Hoping that anyone can help =)

 

Mine came with a standard plate as well. I wonder if we could get a blank plate somewhere and take it to an engraving shop. Shouldn't be too expensive.

 

here in the states, there are places that sell trophies and plaques for school athletics and things like that. they do engraving...

you should be able to find the same kind of place in .sg...

 

but will they be able to engrave the alien wording as well?

 

and it seems that in singapore, if you choose to get the plate engraved, it can and will cause delays to your unit. was told by a dell sales agent that the delays could get as long as 1 to 2 months.

 

I dont think so, because Im guessing that engravers have certain fonts and the special alien wording is Alienwares own specialized font, but depending on where you live you should be able to call AW tech and ask them to send you a seperate nameplate either blank or if you get lucky then you might be able to get a personalized nameplate. It all depends on who you get at customer services.

 

I wonder if you can call DELL and have them send you one. I would like to have a specialized one as well gonna call and post back the results.

 

dell probably won't send a custom-engraved nameplate. when i got my m17x system replacement, i asked a few different people and they all told me no.

there is a alienware TTF font out there on the net somewhere. If the engraver uses a PC to drive the engraver, it should be possible. no idea if this would really work, just throwing it out there....

 

That pretty much mirrors my experience, I asked about getting a new one for another system I sold so it didn't have my name (wasn't thinking when I ordered it). All I got from anyone was it wasn't possible since there was no way to order it in the system

 

There is a an Alienware font people talked about earlier in the forums called "AlienwareCaret". I tried finding it for download but I can't seem to locate it. Apparently it was loaded on the earlier Area-51 systems etc and even showed up in the fonts folder for use in MS Word.

 

The font is AlienCaret, do a quick google and you'd find it.

 

Sorry home with a cold and miswrote that - it is AlienCaret, not AlienwareCaret!

 

Dell rep advise us, anyone?

 

i remember some 1 offered 100 dollars + their standard naemplate for some 1 that was ordering a new laptop to put what they wanted on it and trade, u could try bribing some 1 ordering

 

Wow, that's a lot of effort. Damn, nobody in call centers are willing to help me. =(

 

it might help if you b!tch real hard, and demand to speak to a manager.
